    1. Started as a teenager, so almost 10 years.

    2. About a year and a half.

    3. Nothing

    4. Kept a last pack around for emergencies---It's still sitting in a cabinet. By the time I needed an emergency smoke, the cigs were so stale tasting I didn't even want 'em. I haven't lit up since.

    5. I was going to get a boob job at that time and quit to be healthy for the surgery. I didn't end up meshing with the doc or liking the available implants then, so the surgery was delayed. I had already quit with the cigs and had no desire to start up again.

    1. How long did you smoke?
From ages 13-15, then age 19-21. Even when I smoked regularly, I was never addicted to the nicotine itself. I was addicted to taking a break to do something but do nothing.

    2. How long since you've smoked?
About a year and a half.

    3. What aids did you use to quit?
I have terrible Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and nicotine caused me to get stomach cramps and acid shits. That pain made it easy to quit. Plus, it was really disgusting when I'd blow my nose and it was brown. I also hated coughing and being short of breath. It was also really disgusting when someone else smoked and smelled like tobacco.

    4. How did you deal with the major triggers like coffee, going out, alcohol, getting angry?
I avoid getting bored, I stay inside when people go out to smoke, and I run around the block or something to relieve stress rather than smoke a cigarette.

I had my first cigarette at 15 and my last was eleven days ago. (I didn't smoke continuously for 12 years but I was a smoker more than a non smoker) I woke up on a Saturday with no cigarettes and never stopped to by more.

Triggers for me are getting in the car. I just get on the phone instead. Drinking hasn't really triggered it because I can't stand the smell of smoke so far.

I never once said I was quitting. I just did. I made up my mind that I quit and I quit.

    1. How long did you smoke? 12 years. A pack a day, from the time I was 14 til the time I was 26.

    2. How long since you've smoked? 7 years

    3. What aids did you use to quit? No aids. Cold turkey. I quit because I got pregnant and stayed quit out of respect for my son. After my son was born I made the decision not to smoke because I knew I had to stay healthy for my child and be a good influence on him.

    4. How did you deal with the major triggers like coffee, going out, alcohol, getting angry? I don't drink coffee or alcohol. I didn't go out much at night because I was home with the baby. As far as getting angry goes...the only time I really wanted to smoke was when I got angry. I told myself that if I was angry about something, first I'd have to calm down, take deep breaths, focus on a solution, and I would cry or write in a journal, or take a walk. Find a HEALTHY way to release the anger. If I felt like smoking I'd say to myself "Fuck that, as if smoking is going to make it all better".

    5. What prompted you to quit? I got pregnant. Hell no was I going to smoke while pregnant. Upon hearing the news that I was having a baby, I threw my cigs away and I know I will never smoke a cigarette again. I hate them and I can't stand being around them.

At 33 I am much "younger", happier, and healthier than I was 10 years ago. I couldn't run for 5 min. as a smoker at 23, but now I can run for 45 min easily and am much calmer and happier!

    1. How long did you smoke?

    ~About 5 or 6 years.

    2. How long since you've smoked?

    ~Approximately 30 weeks.

    3. What aids did you use to quit?

~Cold turkey. Patches, gum or any other aids have never helped me in the past and they weren't really safe for me to use at the time.

    4. How did you deal with the major triggers like coffee, going out, alcohol, getting angry?

~I took a lot of deep breaths and slept a lot more. Plus with the morning sickness I stopped craving it pretty quickly. Now I can't even smell cigarette smoke without getting grossed out. Pretty big change from 2 packs a day!

    5. What prompted you to quit?

~I got pregnant. I absolutely had to, so I made myself do it. So glad I did!

I am trying not to make a big deal about this, just calmly take it on craving at a time. Today is day five smoke free. I have been smoking for 10 or 11 years... 1 to sometimes 2 packs a day. I am super active and smoking has never stopped me from racing or anything, dumb I know.

I have tried to quit so many times, the gum, the patch, smoking pot instead (dumb!), cold turkey. This is the longest I have ever gone without smoke, not a puff, I have gone for a few weeks, but with a puff here and there. If I think about te future without a cigarette, I get overwhelmed.

Right not I am using the commit lozenges sparingly. The physical cravings aren't really there, I know that feeling of wanting to pull your hair out or of utter despondancy. Now I am using the lozenges to help get over the humps. I know how it goes, it is a matter of breaking a bunch of habits, driving and not smoking, talking on the phone and not smoking, etc. And I have been running A LOT!

I need like a goal, my dad said he'd help my pay for veneers at the end of the year, which I have wanted forever, if I make it. Which would be cool, but I need a short term reward. So I am going to take up Scuba diving with my friend. That way I have a tangible reason not to smoke.

This time is really different, it is fucking hard at times, but overall it is a lot easier and less depressing than the other times I tried to quit. I guess you need to learn what to expect.

Congrats for deciding not to smoke anymore. KEEP GOING AND DO NOT SMOKE. Just don't do it. You've already made it to day 5. Why screw it up now? Eventually you won't think about wanting one so much, and there WILL come a day that you won't even think about it at all. THEN you'll get to that point where you will abhor cigarettes and you won't be able to take the smell.

Drink a lot of water. Keep yourself busy. Take a walk if you have to. You may get strong cravings but just breathe through them and the feeling will pass. Even though the physical urge is strong, QUITTING IS MORE A MENTAL THING THAN ANYTHING. Be strong and just KEEP GOING.

Take it day by day. You'll get to that point where the thought of no cigarettes for the rest of your life is a HAPPY thing, not an overwhelming thing.

    1. How long did you smoke? from age 12-21 (yeah... i started waaaay young)

    2. How long since you've smoked?4 months

    3. What aids did you use to quit? none

    4. How did you deal with the major triggers like coffee, going out, alcohol, getting angry? i still love coffee, going out, and alcohol! although i've found that i have participated less that i used to in the coffee and alcohol, although due mostly in part to the fact that i'm preggo. i still go out a lot though. as far as my anger, i find that i've found more effective ways of dealing with it, especially stress induced anger, than going and smoking a cigarette. assessing my reasons for my anger and my emotions rationalizing through them, and then discussing them with the "offender" is much healthier than throwing a fit and smoking a cigarette and not actually dealing with the issue. this is a HUGE step for me, as i have really really intense anger issues (thank you religious fanatic momma and emotionally absent daddy!) and i get severely manic and flip out or depressive and want to kill myself on a regular basis. being able to address my issues without the aid of chemicals (i'm not on meds) is really really... nice.

    5. What prompted you to quit?
i found out i was having a kid.
