Default Your favorite one or two lines of lyrics from a song about a city?

Having been born and raised in L.A., mine is from the Waylon Jennings song, "How Much Is It Worth To Live In L.A.?"

    The line,

"There ain't nobody livin' there.......it's all a state of mind."

What's your favorite lyric snippet from a song about a specific city?

"I want to be back/ in My City By The Bay" Lights, Journey

I was warbling this when Lady Gwen & I were going to the San Juan PR airport to come home to Northern California.....I of course can't hold a candle to Steve Perry.

(PS The song can be about San Francisco or Los Angeles- it was left ambiguous to garner a hit)

"I'm the biggest thing that ever came from my hometown
I'll be damned if I'm gonna let 'em down. "-Gretchen Wilson : Pocohontas

I think it's always great to be proud of where you are from no matter where it is even if it's a small town like Pocohontas, Ill. or a big city it helps shape your personality. Even if you don't want to stay there.

Put on my blue suede shoes and I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta blues, in the middle of the pouring rain...

They've got catfish on the table, they've got gospel in the air,
And Reverend Green'll be glad to see you when you haven't got a prayer
But boy you've got a prayer in Memphis.

At certain moments when I'm easily influenced by homesickness or hormones, this song ("Walking in Memphis") makes me weep. I've actually cried singing along to it. There are a zillion songs about Memphis that get me going; in fact, Memphis is the most sung-about city in the world. No other city in the world has as many songs about it as Memphis, not even Paris. I guess it's because modern music was born in Memphis, so every musician feels a certain connection to it... like Mecca or Jerusalem, LOL!

"Sometimes I feel Like I dont have a partner
Sometimes I feel Like my only friend
Is the city I live in The city of angels
Lonely as I am Together we cry"

    - "Under the Bridge"
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
"See, believe it or not (and I don't care whether you do), it's never been about the sex. I get sex at home, anytime, and we like it, and it's good for both of us. No, my stripclub experience has been about acceptance, and affirmation, and desirability...There have been some women who have a personality that just clicks with mine, and in the faux-sex atmosphere of the club, it's a mix that is completely seductive." - Jay Zeno

Huh.. I always thought that song was about Paris Hilton...

What with pulling a train and the cheap champagne and everyone stoned. Go figger!

My favorite city lyrics don't really name a specific city.. but it reminded me so much of the city I grew up in..

    from Bowling for Soup's... "Hometown"..

I hope this song finds you well.
And I hope that you're doin' fuckin swell.
I hope that you're back up if you've ever been down.
.....And I hope you got the fuck out of our hometown.

Tupac & Dr. Dre's "California Love"

"California Knows How To Party...In The City of Compton"

That's a classic! Especially for the Califas born & bred.
