    Default Sinus infection?

I woke up yesterday morning with a sore throat and a cough. It lasted all day. Today, it's still sore and I have a headache now, but the cough seems to be going away. It also kind of hurts all in my nose/throat area too. Any quick cures? Does it sound like a sinus infection?

It's most likely viral, and in that case there's not much you can do besides drinking plenty of fluids and taking it easy. Viruses cause 90% of upper respiratory infections. I felt the same way a few weeks ago, and I just got rest and fluids and within 3 or 4 days I was all better.

Antibiotics WILL NOT help you if it is viral, so don't even think about taking them. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections only.

(As a microbiologist, I always have to throw that warning in as it's very important because overuse of antibiotics will cause them not to work anymore because the bacteria become resistant to them)

Sinus infections usually cause nasty headaches and pain in the facial sinuses, plus have greenish-yellow colored snot. A good way to keep the bacteria from getting too comfortable, and thus, reducing your chances of getting an actual sinus infection, is to gargle with salt water, and irrigate your sinuses with salt water via a neti pot or saline rinse you can pick up at the drugstore.

If it's your sinus's you will experience pain/or blocked feeling in your face if you bend over forwards. The area around the nose and sometimes the brow bone will be sensitive to touch.

If it is sinusitis a good remedy is a saline flush. Fill up a glass of warm water with 2 teaspoons of salt and get a syringe (with no needle) and holding one nostril inhale it and then blow it out your nose.
