Aw heck. Thought this was going to be a cool, geeked-out discussion about Sony's PC line.

I don't know, I saved the PMs though so if I need to I can send them in.

heh, i was actually being a bit tongue-in-cheek with my first post. an underhanded slap of sonyvaio (the guy). too subtle maybe.

but i do need to change my vaio soon. is the mio the tablet/handheld one? that one's very kewl. too bad it's hd is tiny!

The Mio is actually a GPS but is based of the Vaio software. It's never faulted on me once.

oops, i thought you were referring to the "UX". i thought it was just a difference of marketing names, US vs. Aust.

i really like the smallness of it (also thinking crackberry but i do need full functions). but i'm concerned on compatability, speed, and expandability. i was really limited with my toshiba libretto waaay back but i lerved that little pc.

ok, sorry for the geek hijack. back to troll-fishing.

    SW.

    just kidding.

word processing, spreadsheets, email, web/surf, and some graphic/engineering design (rarely though). it also doubles as a dvd player on the roadtrips.

I think it would be decent for those uses EXCEPT the graphic and engineering design. If it's a rarity, you might want to use a less hardcore program... but if you intend to use it enough where it's important and the programs are a bit 'heavier', then you'd want a different laptop. Some graphic and engineering design programs are INSANE and can only be used on PCs... 'cause man... INSANE.

agreed, but it's the "hardcore" programs that usually push me onto the next pc/laptop.

i was completely happy with my little libretto until i was forced into an upgrade and whammo! it started coughing up transistors. *thud!*

i've also been contemplating linux but i really don't know squat. interoperability and archive access is why i'm resistant to mac'ing. there's a couple in my office but i'm just much more comfortable in a pc environment.

i hope sc's not mad we've hijacked her thread. i didn't mean to originally. i was just making fun (at sonyvaio's expense).

Learn Linux - it'll be the best thing you've ever done for yourself.

No no, much better to talk about something more productive than a troll.
