Default Legislature approves $5 fee for strip club patrons

First they want to close down the clubs in Houston, now it appears they want to tax the businesses and patons. Sheesh...

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/4838318.html

I posted comments and this is what I asked:

Ok, two question I'd like to ask.

#1: This should apply to any male strip club too, shouldn't it? If not, I'd like to hear why...

#2: I hate that they are labeling people who attend any SOB sexual offenders. Yes, it's for a good cause, but to tax individuals and businesses for something that I don't believe is correlated? If they really want to have sexual offenders pay, make them pay!!! Tax actual sex offenders or hit them in the paycheck and have that money donated to sexual assault victims!!

    Just some random thoughts...

True, 5 dollars is a very small amount, but I just think it should be for individuals who have been prosecuted for such horrible acts...

Anyway...just wanting to get others opinions on it...

It depends on how an SOB is defined by the law. If the men strip to the point where they're showing the goods, I would say yes it would apply. If they're only going barechested, I would say no. Same would apply to any female SC where the dancers are by statute "covered" whether by bikinis or latex.

In any case, I see this law being challenged in court, and possibly struck down on grounds that there's no proven correlation between these businesses and domestic violence. Then again, there's no proven correlation between these businesses and so called "negative secondary effects" and look what happened there.
    Former SCJ now in rehab.

Very true indeed! Too bad that many attorneys like Scott Bergthold aka Community Defense Counsel makes their livings deceiving lawmakers and judges that the perceived negative "secondary effects" studies often done years ago and in cities/states that are irrelevant to the proposed legislation to the city/state in question are indeed pertinent to this time and city/state in question. It's even more pathetic that some courts have upheld Bergtholds "junk science" as being sufficient evidence and thus constitutional to legislate what is usually JUST a moral guise used by the FASCIST-THEOCRATS of the far right-wing of the Republican party to conform to what their unique ideas of THEIR Utopian world are in our free? and pluralistic society with many unique moral and religious beliefs.
