Default blood in urine, Memorial Day

I have a situation. I have had lower back pain and fatigue for about a week now. I thought I might have a bladder infection and went to the md. My insurance was effective May 2 but my card hasn't came yet. Because I didn't have the card the md wouldn't see me and the insurance company couldn't seem to fax the "right" thing over to them while I was there waiting for two hours. So, I left. Now, a few days later I have blood in the urine, my back pain has worsened and I feel pretty rough. So, clearly I have a bladder infection. It's Memorial Day weekend. I hope I can wait till tommorrow to go to another md who would accept the information as opposed to the card, (some will), but I don't know whether they will be open tommorrow or not. I called the local hospital and they said they could see me without the insurance card and would accept the information. I don't have a fever or vomiting. Should I just wait it out and see?

Oh, I'm sorry you are feeling so bad .

Warm compress / hot water bottle relieves the pain. Elevate your legs so that there is less pressure / bloodflow to your pelvic region / organs lying therein.

Lots of water (so the urine is more dilute, hence less irritating to the baldder walls / urethra) and pure cranberry juice. STAY AWAY FROM SALT, COFFEE and LIQUOR (They are irritants and dieuretics) !!!

This is OTC for the pain until you can get to the doctor: http://www.uristat.com/shorthed.htm.

It stains your pee to an orange color but it is an analgesic and relieves the pain.

And get to the doc STAT. UTI's left unchecked develop into cystitis, or bladder infections. Cystitis left unteated leads to the extremely serious pyelonephritis, or kidney infection, which can cause permanent renal damage and ultimately septicemia (blood poisoning).

I did not post this to scare you, as I am sure there is plenty of time for you to undergo a round of antibiotics and get better. I posted it so that you would not even think of blowing it off. There are natural ways to treat cystitis, however, kidney infections are more urgent and I recommend going to the doctor.

Get better soon greenidlady1 and try to relax, as added stress will cause your abdomen and in turn, your urethra and organs to contract or spasm!

If it's a financial thing (ER visits are expen$ive), chart your temperature and urine color (keep a record in case you need to present your symptoms to the Dr. later) .

If you see your temp rising consistently above 101 F, shivering or begin vomiting, it's an indication that your body is going into shock. This is a good indication to get to the E.R. .

If things are lax for now, and you are feeling discomfort at the most, take the analgesic, track your symptoms and take it easy until tomorrow.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks girls, I am leaving shortly to go the ER. I do take cranberry on a regular basis. But since they will take the insurance I mind as well use it.
