    Post Your Dj!

    • What's the dumbest thing your DJ has said on the mic or done?
    • What's the coolest thing you DJ has ever done?
    • And what would you like him to be doing?

One DJ black balled me because I wouldn't go on a date with him. I tipped twenties every shift, but he must have marked my card because from then on the DJ's played UNDANCEABLE music at that club no matter what I said or tipped.

The best DJ I ever worked with let me go onstage whenever I asked, even if it was out of rotation. He also downloaded music for me if the club didn't have it and I wanted to dance to it. He was awesome...

I get along with most DJ's unless they're on a power trip. Some DJ's get off on f*cking with the girls because they can't get hot chicks. Its a pain in the a*%.

I had a DJ do the same thing because I wouldn't go out with him. It got really bad, because even though I tipped him the same way I did before we stopped getting along, he would do things just to fuck with me. He'd run my songs long if nobody was tipping, cut them short if I was making money, etc. It went on like that for 3 or 4 months before I finally cursed him out and told him what an asshole he was for screwing with me, and that if he was going to be a dick, I wasn't going to tip him at all. Magically he started to be a little nicer after that.

He's the only DJ I didn't get along with from all the clubs I ever house danced at.

I tried to tip him a few dollars and he said "If you did that badly this shift I won't take your money." I still tipped the fucker (I was a newbie, 1st week.)

Jack (DJ at The Northern in Fargo) saw me onstage, pointing at a customer in a Motorhead T-Shirt and saying "Nice Shirt!" (Heavy Metal joke*.) So he repeated what I said over the mic and switched the song to Motorhead's "Ace of Spades"....That was so great. Funny & cool memory.
*"If Motorhead sold as many albums as they do T-Shirts, they'd be rich & famous"

I'd like the DJs to half-jokingly goad guys into tipping and buying dances...That way customers can't get mad at the DJ for "pushing" them to spend, but they have the cue nonetheless.

Dumbest: One DJ had me dance to a meditation CD: ocean waves, seagulls, and piano chords...he thought it would be "cool." NOT!

Coolest: Any DJ who is a pleasure to deal with, plays stuff I like, and helps promote the girls.

    - dumbest thing? I'm cool with all the DJs, but the dumbest thing that made me roll my eyes was when my beloved Yankees lost a game (my poor babies are doing bad this season ) and the DJ announced over the mic that I was a Yankee fan...while half the club was wearing red sox gear. Needless to say, I got very few lap dances that night

Coolest DJ moment? One of our DJs will play whatever I ask him to play. From Alice Cooper, to NIN, to the Ghostbuster's theme song, I've danced to everything. Unfortunately, management hates the guy cause he plays whatever we want.

That is what I wish DJs would do more of - play the music I like and that I want to dance to. I cant really dance to hip hop music, mainly because I dont know the songs, so its hard for me to find a beat and dance to it.

    1. Play music that is too night-club. Call me Voluptuous Vanessa! I'm too petite with a boy-ish figure to be called that.. stick with vivacious. Mix up the music so that it seems like one never-ending song instead of distinct songs when I'm up on stage and/or during a lap dance - it throws me off as I base my timing on songs. I understand you (as the DJ) have to say certain things over and over through-out the night ... at least add some spice to it all.. be creative with what you have to say.

    2. Call me Vivacious Vanessa Play music that the audience wants to hear while at the same time I can enjoy whilst performing on stage. Remind the patrons that tipping is acceptable/okay. Remind patrons that the chairs or any spot near the stage is for those who tip. Make fun of patrons in "pervert row" who do not tip and think they are "too cool for school".

    3. To be a MC. The current DJ at my club is purely a DJ. I don't see the point of having him when he doesn't MC as well! He's also only there Thur-Sat therefore I have survived quite well without him if he is purely going to only play music. Every Mon and Tue I work it's a computer set on random and I still make money. Why have a DJ if he won't MC as well? (especially considering I have to compulsory tip him $10 if I work Thur, Fri or Sat nights)

    3. To play songs that are all 3 or 3 and a half minutes long ! Do not "mix" them all up so that it seems like one never ending song...

We've done case studies on this.
Fans of the visiting team spend money, whether they win or lose.
Hometown team fans only spend money if they lose.

Long story short. Saints just won against the Falcons. My staff wore Falcons shirts... Full house. Standing room only. We had every Falcons fan on Bourbon street. Every girl made over $500. The DJ even tipped out because he broke $300 in tips from customers.

Meanwhile, down the street: Everyone from doormen to DJ's at other clubs were all wearing Saints shirts and yelling at Falcons fans to go home.

Did your manager fire him, or did you not say anything?
