Default Hair Brightener? Does it exist?

My hair is sort of a dishwater blonde colour that I've always disliked so I chose to dye it red. Well, it finally had enough of the chemical abuse I finally sucked it up and paid $$$ to have my hair dyed back to its natural colour of blonde a few weeks ago. It looked faaabulos until my roots started growing in. Now the colour is close enough to where I don't have super-noticeable dark roots but its still too dark that the sun isn't going to brighten it up over time. I don't want to keep getting my roots touched up if I can since the whole point was to go back to my natural color.

Does anyone have an experience with a product that would just add a touch of brightness to my hair and not make it so dingy looking? In high school my brother used to use this spikey hair gel with a brightener of some sort that lightened his hair colour perfectly over a few weeks and his hair is identical to mine. Id use something similar but I don't really want gel in my hair. Is there like a mousse or spray on type formula?

There's a rinse...my gramma used to use it, LOL. You jut wash it in your hair, and it brightens the color, or adds a bit of color...what is it called..
Fancyful or something? At Walmart, in the shampoo section, its a silver bottle. Buy the one for blonde. I have used it, and it works well.

    Sun-In, but that's a ghettotastic California-surfer-style blonding method: "D00d, can I use your Sun-In? Gnarly..."
My friend uses Oxy Clean (the laundry additive) to lighten her nails when they get yellowed from too much nail polish, but beware, it's not meant for hair.
I recommend you talk to a good stylist...It's worth paying for, to not foul up your hair.

(A natural method for blondes is chamomile tea but that might not be strong enough.)

Hmm, that sun-in stuff flaunts that it contains lemon juice.....that reminds me.....does a dilulted lemon juice work? I have a lemon tree out back I should just try that. It needs only the slightest bit of lightening. Oxy Clean sounds like it has bad idea written all over it though (for hair a least)

I'm trying to avoid the stylist route if at all possible but I agree its probably worth it not to eff up my hair.

There was talk of lemon juice in another recent thread....I did it recently. It does lighten out hair but also makes it brittle...Be warned. It also takes a few days of sitting in the sun to get a result. So if you have the time, slather on some suntan lotion and enjoy that SoCal sun while you lighten your hair.

While Oxy Clean sounds scary, it doesn't damage clothing so it stands to reason a strand test could show it's efficacy.

Strand test! Duh! Why didn't I think of that? LOL. I'm not very hair-smart.

Thats a very good point about the oxy clean working on clothing. I didn't think of it that way. I have heard about the brittle part of lemon juice but its worth giving it a try IMO if I dilute it since it sounds like the results are exactly what I want (maybe a shade lighter and bringing out some of the natural blonde in my hair a bit more)

The next week I'll officially have to be the guinea pig for hair brightening methods. I don't work, finals are over and I feel like some "me" time. I'm thinking about getting extensions too on my quest for uber sexy hair, but thats a topic for another thread sometime. I think theres a few already on here and I am clueless as to the best method for uber fine hair.

Equal parts honey and conditioner is supposed to lighten as well. You have to repeat it a few times.

Lush makes two shampoos that are supposed to lighten blonde hair.

Silver Lights at any salon, the shampoo is purple and meant to brighten blondes and remove any brassiness. I just bought some yesterday , not sure if it works from personal experience, but I have heard alot about it before.
