What are the little white dots that appear on your skin after you get a really good tan? I only see them after I've been in the sun for a while, and they're lighter than my normal winter skin tone. They're only on my lower legs but they bug the crap out of me. I "heard" that using selsun blue or something like that will get rid of them, but before I go out and buy a bottle, does anyone have any experience with this?

My dr told me they were yeast. THe natural yeast in your skin multiplies like crazy when exposed to UV rays...and you get the white 'sun spots". Selson blue works..as does OTC yeast infection cream.

Great, thanks! I'm thinking the yeast infection cream will be easier since I won't have to walk around with blue legs. If that doesn't work I'll try the selsun blue

what you have is called tinea versicolor.I have the same thing all over my stomache. It happens when normal yeast bacteria on the skin start multiplying like crazy. The bacteria lets out an acid that bleaches the skin.Usaually the skin only gets lightened alittle bit and you really cant see a difference until you tan. When you tan your skin tans but the tinea versicolor spots dont and thats when you relize you have it.this condition is hereditary so there is no cure. you can only make the spots go away and keep the normal yeast on your body under control. This bacteria originates on the scalp so you have to treat ur scalp as well as the area with the spots. When I went to the derm they gave me perscription selenium sulfide 2%.This is the stuff in selsun blue and head and shoulders. If your spots are few and small maybe washing your hair with head and shoulders once a week, and using it on the spots for 10 minutes in the shower for a week or two,is enough. But I think you should go straight to the derm, because tinea versicolor is a pain in the ass to get rid of.But dont worry this is not a serious condition.Good luck.
