I went vintage shopping, as you do, and found the most amazing thing. A 1940's vintage Chanel suit from France! The CLOSEST I could find it for online was $850US.
I got it for $70 Australian.

Umm, old telephones, lol. Its surprising how much theyre worth though.
I also got a really cool old sterio for $30 at The Salvos which I saw in a vintage shop for $250.
Almost everything I own is from Op shops though.

Oh, I found the gorgeous flower embroidered curtains in my bedroom for a couple dollars at a vintage store - brand spankin new looking, and gorgeous. I've also found some gorgeous lamps and antique candle holders that look awesome in my house.
Vintage stores in L.A. are often more expensive than retail.![]()
I don't think I've ever stepped foot into a second-hand clothing store for anything other than looking for stuff for an 80's costume party.
Perhaps I should start looking in them... I've always been a bit to snobby and figured it was all just old crap. There's HEAPS nearby my house.
Oh wow. That's impressive. I've found some beautiful items, but never that great of a deal. Like Yek said, it's usually more expensive b/c of the rarity. When I have the money to make it a hobby, I want to hunt down vintage Dior, Azzedine Alaia, Herve Leger, Valentino, and lots of others.

I've found amazing deals in Portland, OR, every time I've traveled there. I LOVE their secondhand and vintage shops - the best and most affordable I've ever seen in one concentrated area. I lerve Portland.

my senior prom dress! beautiful... no one else had one like it, bought it for 10 bucks =D
I don't think Austin has any good vintage shops. Sigh. All I ever find is crap with really bad stains.

Being an utter bookworm, one of my best finds has been one of the first printed versions of Dante's Inferno for $.50!!!
I also ran into a vintage Louis Vuitton clutch bag, but the leather was in really bad shape -
I am now wondering if it could have been restored.

I found this website the other day http://www.fashiondig.com/ You can search from the decades.

Much of my wardrobe comes from goodwill/vintage places. Its a lot cheaper, and I'm just going to take it home, cut it apart, embroider it, paint it, etc. anyways...
I've found some beautiful things-I have an Indian outfit, deep maroon with silver embroidery, its gorgeous! Haven't had an occasion to wear it, but i keep hoping, and debating wearing separate pieces with other outfits...

My friend found a botega veneta clutch at goodwill for $8.
A vintage dior suit, very Jackie O, for 9.50$
A trio of silk Hérmes scarfs for 1$ each
a pair of signed authentic tiffany's wall sconces for 6$
A complete collection of Dickens works, leather bound, hand sewn, for 25$
I <3 antique buys!!!!

You're doing it all wrong! I shop there heaps and love to search deeply because I can get amazing finds. I have Georgio and Emporio Armani, Bob Mackie, Chanel, Cue, Louis Vuitton... but all vintage and timeless pieces that'll never go out of style - all for insanely cheap prices!
I don't leave until about 9pm on Monday if you wanna go op shopping together. I'm a professional!

Oooh, I just noticed in the OP I said suit. It was actually just a skirt, but wool with silk lining and gilded buttons. Not AS cool as a full Chanel suit - but still a great deal.
