Default Why do people go on vaca, and then do nothing?

My boyfriend cousin came to Vegas for the weekend, with a few of her friends. Her friend didn't want to do anythign but sit in their hotel, gamble and go to the pool. OK, fine, do what you want. However, they wouldn't let her do anythgin either!!
They said, since they came as a group, they had to stay a group. My boyfriend wanted to take his cousin out and show her around, and she was BORED sick, and she had to actually wait until everyone went to bed, then sneak out. How fucking stupid!!

When we tried to tell them what they were missing they woudl say, oh..I heard that is boring, its old, it wont be fun. And we would say, well, how would you know, you've never seen it, and we live hee, and are telling you, it's fun.

For 3 days, they did not leave the hotel room. WHy the hell woudl you coem all the way to Vegas ad do nothing??

This is very common with tourists here. I had a friend come in, and they stayed within 3 hotels the whole trip. They never even saw the whole strip.
I have talked to a lot of people that do this. Why woudl you coem the whoel way to vegas and not leave your hotel??

I think it's because Vegas is intimidatng, and can be scary, btu still, if your comming here for vacation, wouldnt you want to see all the cool stuff?

Last night, we tried to take everyone down to Freemont street. Freemont is cool. Its fucking awesome. The largest TV screen ever created is there, covering a whole street. Its cool. But they said they heard freemont street was old, and boring and no fun. They didnt know it had been revamped and the llight show was added, but they refued to come. So they stayed in their room.
They never even saw the whoel strip, they didnt go see any of the free shows outside the casino's, they did nothing.

They also refused to take a cab, saying it woudl be to expensive( $25 split between 5 people....) They woudl ride the bus and spend hours stuck on public transportation, yet...woudl drop 5grand a night gambling.

Sorry...just a rant. If you go on vacation, Vacate!!! See the sights! And if you wanna be a pud who stays in the room, please be courteuos and allow others to go out if they actually want to have fun and see the sights. Just cause you wann abe a loser dont mean everyone else does.

My boyfriends cousin was bored, disappointed, her firs time here, and she didnt really get to see or do anything. I felt really bad for her.

Well if I go to a beach resort, all I wanna do is lay out with a drink in my hand. But Vegas?! I can't even stay in my room for more than sleeping a few hours here and there. It's impossible!!

This is why I either vacation alone or with just one other person. Then you are not pulled in so many directions and everyone gets a chance to do things they like.

I think the problem was...it was work friends. Her boss actually flew a few of them out, so she had to tread carefully, and try not to step on toes.

well, sometimes you do so much at home, sometimes you want to do nothing when you go on vacation. Have you ever come home from vacation tired?

Honestly, I can see myself doing nothing in Las Vegas, except sunbathing and gambling, of course. If I was in some exotic country, then I'd explore more.

But yeah, that sucks for your friend. Nobody should be forced to do something they don't want to do on vacation. THAT is lame.

Hmm I spent three days in NYC/New Jersey and I saw... Penn Station... Drove through times square... saw a couple of night clubs and umm... did one of those gay boat tours through the harbour lol....

Im now in Philly... and i've seen CH2 and a bunch of fancy homes and Chrissys house I suck at vacation

The thing is though... I get annoyed with crowds of people... plus I travel so much the whole 'this is a new city!!' thing just kinda doesnt do it for me anymore.

I had a blast in NYC and im having a ton of fun in Philly just chillin out... Just knowing its a different city in chillin in is enough for me.

Now I would LOVE to be chillaxin on a beach in Jamaica or somethin *sigh*

That sucks. That's why I prefer to travel alone, or pre-screen my companions. If they are lame, I'd rather not even go.

Now, Vegas, I've been there soooo many times and I've seen so much, that I don't do a whole lot anymore...BUT....I always walk down the strip, go shopping, check out other hotels, eat at different restaurants outside the hotel, and visit lots of stripclubs, as much as I can!!! Hell, I've been to Vegas w my family and no one would go places with me (mad gamblers) I would just cab it alone, walk up to the front of the line at whatever club is hot, and give them a sob story about being alone. It always worked and they never even think I'm a hooker, haha!

But to each his own. Travel is important to me, would hate to do it with sucky crew...

I wouldn't choose Vegas as a vacation spot to do nothing, that's just silly. I've been there my whole life and still find tons of amusing things to do. I also agree with Emily though, about coming home tired from vacation. On one of our trips to Amsterdam, we took a friend and his girlfriend along. The gf ended up being so obnoxious with her frantic scheduling of events, we ditched them. I am one of those folks who will literally do nothing for at least 1 or 2 days, but A'dam is perfect for that sort of thing.

Well....When I was a kid and went on family vacations, my dad woudl wake us all up at the ball crack of dawn to go sightseeing. That sucks. It is vacation, so relax.
You dont gotta be all frantic abotu it running around tryign to do and see everything. That dont sound fun. BUT- Dont freakin pay to go on a vacation and just sit in the hotel all the time. Do something!!

I mean, whats the point of commign to Vegas and not even seeing the Strip? They are from PA, if all they wanted to do was gamble, they could have gone to Altlatic city for much cheaper.

And yeah, if you want to sit around and veg out- go to the beach!! Wher eyour SUPPOSED to do nothign but sit around and drink cocktails.

I was just in Vegas over the weekend and I actually wish I did a little bit more of the lazing by the pool and relaxing in the room; if I was awake (which I was most of the weekend, including 40 hours straight) I was doing *something* - either gambling, clubbing, or driving to a casino or club. The tough part, as Kaylinn said, is that Vegas is not the type of town where you can have a "relaxing" vacation, even with the bomb-ass pools and spas at many of the resorts.

As a result, like with most of my trips, I find myself needing a vacation from my vacation.

And why Kaylinn's cousin's friends spent so much time in the room? Probably because if you're paying over $300/night, you want to use the room for more than the three Ss (sleep/shit/shower).

I wish I saw more of Vegas when I was there, I really wanted to see Freemont Street...

I ended up laying poolside half the days though lol.... though I did wander around the strip a fair amount and saw a lot... I just wish I had saw more.. but god damnit the pool was so relaxing!!!

Which is why I think if you come to Vegas, go for the cheap hotels. No reason to spend so much on a hotel room you wont or shouldnt be in, except for the 3 S's...UNless you got money to spend on a room.
And there is NO NEED to spend $300 on a room per night. PLan it right, book it early, talk to the right people, you'll get a strip room for $70 a night, or free, if you know what your doing. we just stayed at the Monte Carlo for a night for fun, for $75 bucks. We've gotten free rooms ( without gambling) just because we asked the right person.
Chances are, if you gamble enough, you can get your room refunded if you've already payed for it, maybe only for 1 night, but still....

Damn, I should write a how to Vacation in Vegas book.

It's the lack of choice and control that makes things like that suck. I've been with people who just wanted to sit in a hotel room, watch T.V. and order in pizza. Ummm, you do that at home... at least let's go to a local restaurant or something...

On the other hand, I've been with lunatics that turned seeing cool stuff into an ordeal of running from one site to the next, terrified they missed something on the checklist.

    A balance is nice.

And people think I'm nuts for traveling alone or with only very select people.

I live so close to Vegas I don't see it as a vacation spot any longer plus its really expensive now ( 20yrs ago much cheaper ) . But hey I guess the point is if your on vacation its your choice of what you want to do be it as little or as much as possible . I think you decide what your going to do when you choose your particular destination .

I just had a thought, and apologies if it's a threadjack.

A few months back I remember a thread about favorite hotels to stay in. Sometimes just staying in the room doesn't have to be "doing nothing" - I met a group from another message board once in Vegas, and we ended up playing board games and I showed everyone how to play pai gow poker. It was an excellent night's entertainment, likely more fun than standing in line for restaurants or clubs.

Also, there's often a thrill in staying in a nice hotel, even if it's for just one night. IMO, I don't mind paying more for a nice room because every time I've tried to do a vacation on the cheap, it's turned out badly (thank God the Key Largo casino is closed, for example).

    Oh, and...

People like that should be banned from vacationing, and the money they would have spent should be given to people who have some fucking clue about having fun.

I just got off the plane from Vegas this afternoon too.

The usual summer time comment would be that it's too freakin hot outside to walk the strip, but this weekend was gorgeous, not too hot at all- comfortable mid-90's.

I came home on Sunday. Memory is still a bit fuzzy, but I'm sure I was there (brought home yella chips). Know how to leave a casino with a small fortune? Enter with a large one.

Some people veg in Vegas, others go non-stop. But being someplace new and not be able to do anything you want to do, would totally blow.

I went to Vegas for my b-day last year, and I never once left the hotel. HOWEVER...I am also from NV, and have been to Vegas more times than I can count. I didn't feel like partying, and ended up with a horrible migraine, so we hung out, gambled, and ate yummy food. However, I would never tell anyone with me that they couldnt go do something fun, and typically I wouldn't just hang out in the hotel either.

If I wanted to go on vacation and do nothing I would save myself a shitload of money by doing so at one of the many many resorts here on the Gold Coast. I get to "do nothing" yet it doesn't cost the world nor inconvienance anyone really.

Otherwise, I'm always up for SOMETHING when I go anywhere else.

I'm not one of "action packed" vacations thanks to my younger years (did alot of travelling with the family and Dad always had an itenery of things to see/do/etc... never time to just sit back and relax for half a day) ...........yet I'm also not one for vacations where I do absolutely nothing all the time.

I like a bit of both ... time to relax, unwind, do alot of nothing as well as time to see and do stuff.

Well, if it's a good hotel...

the only one I could do that is Hard Rock. Room service, boutique is open late in case you need something to wear, casino is always poppin with fun beautiful people, steakhouse AND sushi restaurant, pool rocks, security tends to overlook loud music and the smell of pot in the hallway, and rooms have ultra dark curtains so it never has to be daytime if you don't want it to. The room with the bowling alley looks like a nightclub all the f--kin time if you want it to.
