    Default House smells

As soon as I walk in the door to a house, I can always tell if the house is an Asian owned house because the house smells like Asian food. To me all Caucasian peoples houses smell the same - like nothing.

question: do white people's houses smell? when you walk in the door can you immediately identify that the house is owned by white people? or does it smell like nothing?

    heres my input:
My Pakistani friend's house smells "curry ish"

My Chinese friend's house smells "soy saucy"

My Filipino friend's house smells "fried ish...like lumpia and fish"

My Caucasian friend's house smells like nothing.....cant tell except for a cherry scented outlet air freshener

    Just my 2 cents.

that's funny, i can always tell a causasian-owned house as they usually smell like potpourri or cherry-scent.

Really if you took all the pictures off the walls and took the people out of the house what would be your first scent of the house? *rhetorical* I think its silly to say what peoples houses smell like in correlation to their ethnicity. Certainly my house doesn't smell like fried chicken and vanilla. Although fried chicken is delicious its just silly to relate someones race to the scent of their dwellings.

My house smells like dog. Occasionally it smells like clove-scented dog. What race does that make me?

Well obviously a persons house will likely smell like whatever was cooked last..esp if it is a dish with stong spices or scents...such as Asian food or anything with curry. And people who cook things like this every day will have that smell in their house always since those scents tend to linger.

My house? Depends....if I've just cooked Italian food, it smells like garlic...if I've just cooked a turkey..it smells like that. Otherwise it usually smells like scented candles or incense.

Ok, TM's post just cracked me up. My house smells strongly of vanilla and chicken right now. All of my outlet plugins are vanilla (and I have 4 of them throughout), and right now I'm cooking chicken! Oh, and I'm white, so there goes your theory Blacksheep!

I cook a LOT of Asian food and I'm whiter than Billy Ray Cyrus, so I'd be curious as to whether you would identify my home as Asian. I don't really smell my house (hello, I live here, I'm accustomed to it), but I'd guess it probably smells like a combination of vanilla candles (my addiction), garlic, and my cat, plus whatever I've cooked that day.

Come to think of it, if you walked in my apartment and didn't know I lived here, you just might think Asian people live here. There's a big basket by the door for kicking off shoes (this is a barefoot home), it probably smells like the Asian food I often cook, and there are Chinese knick-knacks and decorations all around the place. No Asian people living here though, just me plus K's Irish ass.

Lol yek that would fool me.

Growing up I smelled a distinction between my Viet, Flip, and Chinese friends' houses (of course in relation to food).

My white friends houses smelled like bacon or leather usually.

My bf's house smells like curry and tobacco! His gpa does nothing but smoke and cook all day.

I love smelling people's houses! You instantly get a feel for what food they like, their cleaning habits, and a bunch of other stuff. I'm kind of weird like that.

LOL, it's funny you mention that because I've had conversations with some Asian friends when the "You know, like how a white guy's house would smell" line would come up.

LOL that made me giggle Just before I read your reply I was thinking to myself "well I'm a sista but my house sure doesn't smell like fried chicken!" Cuz if this theory was true ya dunn know that 90% of black homes would smell like fried chickaaan.

However the theory really doesn't hold true mr. blacksheep

My house is going to smell like chiles, or marinara, or ginger, or teriyaki, or a number of other things. You'll also get pet whiffs and carpet deodorant. Knock yourself out.

My childhood home smelled like insanity and neglect.

My current home smells like cigarettes, booze and pine trees (the real ones, not the tree-shaped air fresheners). Yee haw!

My house smells like Febreze, cockatoo dust (yes it has a smell), and the little oils you put into pots and burn. What is it this week....Satsuma mixed with Cranberry. Sounds weird but smells good.

To me every house has it's own unique smell, just like people do. I have a heightened sense of smell I guess but I do literally smell a distinct scent with people and their homes. Most scents can't be identified as any one thing, it's just their scent. I think I first realized that when I was about 15 and had just come home from school. Before I hit the front door, I could smell my sister. I went in and she wasnt there. So I asked my mom if she had been there and she was like yeah, she left about 30 mins ago, how did you know. I said I could still smell her...lol. But not in a bad way, she just has her own distinct scent like everyone else does. Perhaps I was a dog in another life...lmao!!

My house smells like jasmine. I have a big plant covered in flowers on the bannister, which you smell immediately as you walk in the door. I have another huge plant of it in my bedroom, so I smell it at night, too. I love the stuff.

Asians tell me my house smells like milk and their house smells fine.

As a matter of fact, MOST other cultures will tell you that western society smells of milk.

That's a WEIRD smell and I can't decide if it's good or bad. But I can tell by smell if people have birds and if they're large birds. Cockatoos, however, have a distinct smell. It's a feathery wood smell... or something.
