    Default Your dream house

So tell me...If you could design your dream house, what would it be like?

My house woudl be Victorian style on the outside, with a wrap around porch.
Inside woudl be very modern style. The kitchen woudl have plenty of counter space, and have state of the art appliances, and all the bells and whistles.

The game room would have a dart board, pool table, stripper pole, HUGE hot tub, fully stocked bar, and beer on tap.

The bathroom would have a huge jacuzzi tub, a seperate shower, and big windows to overlook the garden below.

The master bedroom would be in all white, with a canopy bed, with white sheer draps around the bed, big huge colorful pillows all over the bed. A seperate dressing room with huge walk in closets, with the computer thing liek in Clueless to help pick out outfits, with a motorized moving closet racks.

Outside I woudl have a basketball court, tennis court, beautiful swimming pool with a waterfall, and a tropical theme, lots of trees.
A garden, herbs and flowers, with a little pond in the midle and a creek running through the garden, with some benches to sit on, and a cute little bridge.

My house woudl be secluded enough to have a small farm, with horses, and any other animal I wnated, but clsoe enough to the city so I coudl go out and have fun, or run to the store for milk, and not drive 30 minutes.

My view would be of the ocean, and I would have a beautiful balcony off the bedroom that I coudl go out on and sit and watch the ocean, or leave the french doors open at night to smell the salt air, and listen to the ocean.
My house woudl have tons of huge windows everywhere, to let lots of light in.

It woudl be modern, yet cozy and comfy.

    What's your like?

Mine would be very similar..excpet the master BR would be very dark...dark wood and earth tones. Fireplace with a sitting area in front. HUGE dark wood sleigh bed.

I'd have one room that was half inside and half outside(as in..it opened to a screened porch type thing). It would have giant trees, perches and swings...and it would be my birds own jungle room!

the kitchen would have all modern appliances, but would again be dark. Wood, exposed brick, copper....

Lots of plants and flowers everywhere

And of course a staff to clean, care for the plants, etc...

I would be on enough land that I could open a rescue..and not have to deal with neighbors. But no more than a 20 minute drive to civilization

HUGE home gym..every piece of equiptment I need plus sound system and big screen TV with both satellite tv and dvd...

A regular one story house in a decent Bay Area neighborhood filled with Korean, Flip, and black girls. (the ones you see in the rap videos)

*Outside color is blue and white

*Inside color is mainly purple, light green, and baby blue walls with peach tiled floors and granite counter tops.

Mine would be in a peaceful, pretty neighborhood and have a big yard with a patio in back and a porch in front. On my porch, I'll have a ceiling fan and a swing where I can relax in the evenings. The back patio will be screened in so I can eat or chill out there without worrying about bugs (and of course, it would also have a ceiling fan). Just outside the screened-in part of the porch, there's one of those great outdoor cooking areas with a built-in grill, a minifridge, sink, etc. so I can have awesome BBQ's on a regular basis.

Inside, there's no air conditioning, but plenty of windows to let the breeze in when it's hot. There's a fireplace for when it's cold, and the plush, comfy furniture is arranged around it. One large bay window has a window seat full of cushions, where I like to sit when I can manage to move the cats from that spot. All the windows look out onto flowers and trees. My spacious kitchen has two ovens, two sinks, and two refrigerators for easy kosher cooking; there is a door in the kitchen leading outside to my herb/vegetable garden.

I have a huge hot tub in the backyard, surrounded by high privacy hedges so I can indulge in sex and nudity without the neighbors bitching. I have a bedroom, a guest room (which will eventually be my child's room), and a sort of "playroom" that looks like a strip-club VIP room with a bar, a pole, and a great stereo. In the master bath, there's one of those glorious oval tubs built between shelves for my candles and books, the kind of tub you have to go up a few little steps to get into. There is no TV anywhere in the house but the living room does have one of those large fish tanks built into the wall; I have a guy who comes regularly to maintain it. The house is full of plants; I have a bird or two, a couple of cats, and a schipperke.

    *happy sigh*

I love how you described that as if you were living there now. And your dream house sounds wonderful...I like!!

I dont want tv's in my house either, but Id allow one in the living room for my boyfriend, and to watch movies on.

I REFUSE to have a tv in the bedroom. That is one thing I will not allow or compromise on. Bedrooms are for sleeping and sex. Only. No tv's.

Agreed, I am also wholeheartedly against television in the bedroom. Of course, I'm wholeheartedly against TV anywhere in the house, but ESPECIALLY the bedroom! That's how relationships end in bed death. My bedroom is for me and my partner, not for the mass media.

And Lola, you watch DVD's and fuck in the living room, silly!

Although I'll admit it, sometimes K and I take his computer into the bedroom (it has a 15" screen) and watch porn on it while we fuck. But we usually do that when we're stuck in a hotel with nothing to do.

My dream house would be as green and sustainable as is possible. I'd like to have ways of generating my own power through wind and solar, a rain water reclamation tank for landscape irrigation. I'd build the house out of ICF walls, metal roof and as much recycled materials inside as I could.

I have an idea for a home passive heating and cooling system, and assumed that something like it MUST already be on the market. As far as I know, no one offers automatic windows attached to thermostats to use the air inside and outside the home to heat and cool rooms. If I want to build that into my home, I'll have to hire someone to create it from scratch. I'm not smart enough to invent it myself, but it seems like a fairly simple concept. I'm not sure why no one has incorporated it into greener living designs??

Anyway, I KNOW that houses can be built with more recycled materials and to be self supporting. No one is doing it, so I guess I'll have to be my own general contractor on that project, too.

The Victorian house sounds nice but I think I'd like to have an old warehouse or store front building. Downstairs I could have my own hair salon and upstairs I'd have an open loft with modern asian decor. I'd like a fountain when you walk in the loft then a wrap around kitchen with steel appliances. I'd hang some modern, abstract art on the walls. The living area would be modern decor with a nice flat screen tv. I'd like a bose sound system in the loft as well. The bathroom would have a nice soaking jacuzzi tub with a stand up shower next to it. The bedroom have a big asian contempory style bed that sits low to the floor with plush linens. Mmmm, that's about it for now. Oh and of course I nice porch overlooking the city or rooftop garden would be lovely as well.

I actually would want to have maxiumum land and less house. Why? I would be wanting to use the land to rehabilitate native wildlife as well as foster various dogs and cats. Therefore something that isn't too spacious yet two levels (I love stairs!).

Main bedroom with ensuite and walk in. One other bedroom. A bathroom with a shower and a bath. Separate laundry. DLUG (double lock up garage). Shed for extra storage. Private balcony from the main bedroom.

Waterfront. Main bedroom with the waterfront views.

Other than these things, I'm pretty adaptive and can function well in a big or small kitchen etc.

Havn't really given much thought as to what my dream house would LOOK like.. just that I want an acerage and a place that I could easily live within. Since I'm a renter, I'm used to living within all sorts of places.

Im slightly torn between just choosing a cave or choosing a small 2 story quaint house at least a few hundred years old in SE England close to the town, countryside and beach.

The house would have a couple of friendly resident ghosts floating around and walking through walls etc on a regular basis, an old fire place in the living room to add character on the cold winter nights, a mimmified cat placed in the walls hundreds of years earlier for protection, a haunted creepy cellar with a tunnel leading from it to my local pub, a round tower 1 story higher than the house complete with resident bats and owls and covered with climbing plants.
A quaint room in the attic for me, a couple of spare bedrooms for friends and family, a study, living space and inside bathroom. I dont care about the rest. (My perfect home wouldnt have a kitchen, I hate cooking!)
I would have to have a cave in the garden, lots of trees and fruit bearing plants and shrubs. Garden spirits and a couple of wild badgers living there. Overloking an old graveyard would be cool.
Maybe Id have a rockery full of herbs and a vegetable patch that requires minimal effort to look after. Secret places in the garden - it wouldnt have to be huge though.

I guess just picking the cave is simpler

I can't decide between super modern or 1880's brass and steam style. I'd probably make it LOOK the latter but be the former.

FOR SURE it would have no stairs and it would definitely have an aviary.

I'd have a mad scientist room for Michael - because it ain't a dream home without him in it! It would have glass swirly beakers and steam engine parts and his closet would be filled with tails and spats.

My closet would be modern and have a button I could push to turn everything but be smooth wood... and would be filled with rare vintage brands and clothing. I'd have a section just for hats with feathers.

The kitchen would be SUPER modern with gas everything except it would have an extra wood burning brick stove. The fridge would be a double and have recipe books installed onto a TV screen in the front. I believe the kitchen is the centre of the home so it would be well stocked and have a walk-in pantry with turn-styles.

I don't think I'd want much of a garden, but I'd love me a windowseat with some sills! I'd grow my spices in those and open the windows when I wanted a fresh mint and rosemary breeze.

Kitchen: all stainless steel and granite.
Bathroom: huuuuuuuuuuuuuge shower with jets on all walls
    Bedroom: biiiiiig bed for... stuff
Family Room: comfy couches and light wood tables
Gym: mirrors on all sides (I'm big on form), squat rack and dumbbells

As for how it all comes together, I have no idea.

I'd have the estate from the remake of the Haunting. Sans the tryin to kill me stuff. The interior sets on that flick were totally sets, but the exterior is a real place... now it's a US college campus in the UK (I think...). Damn I love that place. Rawr.

I would just have a simple home. I always believed that at times people have these huge homes but they never get to enjoy it cause they have to work very hard to keep it. Plus I love to travel so I would love to have a simple home and use the $ to go places

That was a cool house! Minus the creepy merry go round mirror room(seriously...who the hell has a room like that?) and the books as stepping stones through the stream in the middle of the house..WTF??? LOL!!

I'm feeling that! My huge house (well 2000 sq. ft.) is much more than I need or use. The upkeep is amazingly time consuming. I don't think the guys realize how much time I spend sweeping and dusting and washing and tidying. Don't even get me started on yard work...

Anywhoo, yeah, a small comfortable home would be nice.

It's beautiful. I love the kitchen, and I love how open the downstairs is. My house now is like that, and it's abotu the only reason I got it, because I love the huge windows in the living room, and the openness, I dont even know what that's called...when the living room doesn't have the cealing...Open floor plan? Anyway, I love it
Your yard also looks beautiful, from what I could see through the windows.....

I'd keep that part, actually. I'm weird like that.

But if I had to design an entirely new home (which I wanna go back to school for when I win the lotto), I think I'd go with a Perpendicular Period Gothic, Manueline, or Elizebethan exterior. Someplace with a lot of land so I can have a lot of gardens, and room for horses and a LOT of pets in general... but not TOO far from my beloved NYC (Ew, so I'd end up in Westchester or Jersey...) I'd have alot of jewel tones and metallics, a lot of decor influenced by most of Asia, with some Greek ad Egyptian added in, some Morocco too. I'd have a rather cluttered decor style. Lot's of things in lots of places. From extensive artwork and lighting fixtures on the walls, to shelves and tables everywhere. Lots of use of fabrics and dark woods. Lots of plant life too.
