Default "You don't LOOK like a stripper."

A girl said this to me at work the other day. I could tell she wasn't trying to insult me or anything so I just said, "Yea, I'm sneaky like that". I mean, I was wearing 7" heels, booty shorts, and a triangle top. I think that I looked like I stripper. Anyone else had someone say this to them?

ALL the time. From the dancers and the customers. WTF do they want from me when I'm wearing typical stripper gear, a pound of makeup and big fake eyelashes, and am walking around with big fake titties?!

From the customers...its a lame attempt at a compliment. Remember, many of them look at strippers contemptously...you know, ooooh poor stripper girl struggling with all the abuse. Thus, to them, telling you that you don't look like a stripper is their way of telling you that you appear "better than that." I would actually get offended at that, but, its a conversation starter, so go with it....

I get that a lot too, but I'm sorta the anti-stripper. It's my schtick.

I get that from my friends and co-workers (not the ones at the strip club, the ones on the movie set I work at). They all know that I am a stripper, but alot of them tell me that I look too much like the "girl next door + tattoos and piercings." I tell them that that is the reason that I AM a stripper...I can pull off the bad girl next door.

    I get it, too.

I think it's quite possible that every stripper who doesn't look like Pamela Anderson has gotten, or will get, this comment---or some variation of it, sometime in her career.

I think Pamela Anderson-esque is "the" popular stripper stereotype.

Yep, when customers say that to me I take it as an insult, even if they don't mean it that way. They are normally the guys that want to 'save' me from stripping and porn.

i get it constantly from customers, but like was said earlier, they play it off as a compliment. same as the "you're too smart" or "you're too pretty" to do this bullshit.

I got this a lot and I still think it's one of the most back handed compliments ever!

    Isn't the obvious reply:

"That's funny -- you sure look like a strip club customer." ?

yeah i don't get that shit either. esp. when i come up to them, act all friendly, semi touchy, and then after a minute or two they say "so, do you dance here?"

    wt.................................??????????????? ???

no. i just like to dress nearly naked, go to strip clubs in my spare time, and mack on the oh-so-sexy customers?!?

Regarding "do you work here"... cut 'em some slack! He's trying to make conversation but all the blood has rushed to his penis. Typically he would initiate conversation by saying something like, "So what do you do?" But he can't ask that, because he knows you're a dancer, so the first random thing to babble out of his mouth is a request for confirmation that you do in fact work there. That's not insidious like the OP. It's just a dude who's so entranced by beautiful women that he forgot how to strike up a conversation.

I get that alot, from other girls, customers, friends. I also get the "do you work here?" or "are you a dancer?" thing from customers. I am half-inclined to believe it's the same backhanded compliment as the "you don't look like a stripper" line, but they seem much more genuine when they ask if I'm working so I guess it's a real question.

Regardless, I always answer with something smartass, make it into a joke we can laugh about, and move on to the rest of the hustle. It makes a good starter

Yeah, I hear it alot too. I don't take offense to it though, I typically answer back with, "oh, well, that's because I'm not, I'm a nuclear scientist " Makes them laugh, and breaks the ice.

My new favorite is the guys that sit next to me, strike up a conversation, and say "so what do you do for a living?" I always look down at myself, my heels, stripper wear, and look back at them and say "you're kidding right?"

And they always ask, SO, what else do you do?
Like you cannot just strip for the sake of stripping, you need to have a REASON to strip. Im putting myself through medical school/supporting 10 kids and a deadbeat hubby/training for Miss America Stripper 2008

Lately Ive been a real smart ass for some reason. When I get so...what else do you do, I would love to say " what you mean, for like, extra money? On my days off I clean bathrooms during the day, and at night give $10 blowjobs on the corner."
But...I just dont have the balls yet.

YES!!!! i always say, "umm, why do you assume I do something else?"
"because a smart girl like you has to have a day job."
"honey... i'm dayshift. this IS my dayjob."

... i AM in school, as i usually reveal later... but often i say this just to be contemptuous.

I do go to uni but if I'm in a smart-ass mood and don't think the guy is going to be a spender I'll just reply with "what earning the average Australian monthly income in a few nights isn't enough of a job. should I get another one ya think?"
