    Default Wow... homophobic much??

Who else here watches the soap opera, Passions?

Background: Wife catches husband cheating with another man. This is obviously not the first occurance of adultry since it is a soap opera.

However, this IS the first time that they're making such a big deal of bringing home diseases. It pisses me off that they're encouraging this stereotype (although I am addicted to the show at the same time!). I mean... wow...
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

I used to watch Passions. It is so out there, just too weird anymore.

Never seen it. I don't really watch much T.V, especially soap operas. But um, if I caught my man fucking someone else I'd be making a pretty big deal about disease. Didn't AIDS start out as just a gay disease anyway? I know it's as common nowadays in straight people as well as gays but more gay men have it I believe than anyone. Call me old fashioned but I don't see what's pissing you off.

I hate how they always call the transgendered character "freak" as well.

Alas, Passions is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's so bad, it's good.

^ Omg did you just say that " aids started out as a gay disease "

    Holy fuck.

What the hell. No it didn't start out as a gay disease, it started out as a disease that was passed by blood and bodily fluids being passed from one person to another!!!!!!!

The first reported cases were among the gay community and a young child named Ryan white in Indiana a kid who lived 3 houses down from me and attended my school.

The pegged it the "gay cancer" because there was NO formal education or studies done.

however this was in the 80s!

And just for an FYI Gia the model died in 1986 , not long after AIDS was noted. She was the first woman so far known to have died of it. She was straight but a needle user.

It didnt morph into some shit where now it can effect straight people.

    Or drug addicts.

Some of the first HIV positive people were those given blood transfusions.

THe lack of education about a disease that is creeping up in statistics in ending more STRAIGHT womens lives, is astounding.

My god. This really upset me. Having close gay friends and a gay brother and also friends that have died of AIDS, one being a family member who was female and straight.

^^^ sidenote- lesbians actually have the lowest percentage of hiv/aids of men/women/straight/gay. But yes- just another reason to avoid bad television that propagates stone-age, false stereotypes.

*of course, I know that I use heterosexual adultery as a guaranteed way to reduce STD transmission. it's just worrying about pregnancy that sucks. 'cause in the lovely world of stereotypes, ya know a cheating woman has to get preggers, and a cheating man has to contract something GAY. we've come so damn far since the Scarlet Letter, haven't we.
