    Default Nails

I have been growing my nails out, and they got quite long, until today. I keep a nail file around at all times, even in the car, so that if I get a jagged edge, small split, etc that I can file it away without cutting my nails. I have been using Sally Hansen's "4 in 1" which is awesome.

Today I noticed that I had a split in one nail. Not verticle down the middle, but horizontal. It's wouldn't get better by filing it and continued to split across near the top. Unfortunately I had to cut it off, and have that nail down to my finger again. real short. And then another one did the same. So not wanting to go with 2 short and 8 long, I decided to clip them all and start very short again so they all grow at the same pace.

    My questions:

    - Is there any way to prevent this (splitting)? I am not using fake nails; they destroy my naturals.

-Should I reapply my 4 in 1 more often? Right now I'm only doing it 1x a week.

^ I heard that to. That tapping the nails on something will strengthen them. Dunno if its true or not......

And Cf...if you get a split, you can use a little nail glue to glue it back together, or buy some silk wraps and use that to hold it togetehr so you dont have to cut them all down. Reinforce the broken nail, and the crack wil lgrow out eventually.

OPI Nail Envy is awesome for natural nails and yes, you can use a tiny bit of glue on your natural nails. I usually just cut mine like you did since they grow really fast anyway and I think short nails are more current.

I have long natural nails and yes, if you get a split or tear you can glue it to prevent it from tearing further. I always keep a clear coat on my fingers and there is a brand called Hard as Hoof, they have a special one that repairs soft thin nails. Even though my nails are thick and hard now, I still use it just as a means of keeping them that way.

If I get a nail split, I get little nail stickers from walmart and put that over the break, then put lots of top coat over the top. Although the nail sometimes gets discolored under the sticker, it's cute and no one is the wiser.

I have paper thin nails an dthey split and crack constantly...I cheat a bit, when it begins to split, I buff the nail till its smooth again. Even with my thin nails, this works nicely, and then when I polish them, my nails dont look flawed at all. Applying Sally Hansen 'Hard Nail" also helps tremendously

Hmm now you have me thinking..that may be true actually. I mean think about it..your fingertips are hitting the keys thus brining more circulation to the nail bed. Just like scalp massages increase blood flow and help your hair too.

    MAkes sense.

Thats why buffing the nails lightly every day stimulated growth. It brings more blood to the nail bed.

I read a while back that if you put a tiny piece of toilet paper over the damaged spot (polish then tp while wet to get it to stick) and then polish and buff it smooth it helps to strenghten, like a wrap. I do this when I get peelling or splits and it helps a ton.

Signature makes a product called "Revivanail" which works excellent for me. I am extremely rough on my nails working as a flight attendant. You can get it on ebay for around 7 dollars and it lasts around three months applying two coats weekly.

I've done that before. Just make sure you only use one layer of toilet tissue (like take the layers apart if it is 2 or 3 ply.)

Do you take vitamins? Taking a good multivitamin daily should help strengthen your nails as well.
