Default don't want to hurt my back.. is this safe?

so ive seen the thing of using the big exercise ball to stretch your back.. lay over it blah blah well i have a little medicine ball .. the one about the size of a bowling ball? so anyways i started doing this thing that is highly painful but incredibly addicting and feels soo good
laying on the floor on my back i take the medicine ball and put it under my back and roll around on it like i would the big ball.. it fits in tight little places and gives you a good stretch yet adds pressure like a massage at the same time it hurts hurts then its like ahhhh.. and its addicting because you want to move it all over your back.. you think you are all stretched then you find another tight spot..
I used to bend over my bed stretching backwards but it was too painful (although its what my chiro suggested) i feel i get the same stretch with the ball but since it creates pressure its more effective and works quicker..
after i feel like my back is shaped like a C all loosened out so i bend the other way like touching my toes and stuff but i feel so good
my mom who's way over weight and always has something negative to say about things she "cant" do was like oh you will hurt your back dont do that!!!! you will regret it ....
even though i think it is good for me just wanted to toss this out there.. think there is any danger to it?

sounds fine to me. usually it would be too painful if it was bad for you.

it probably "hurts then its like ahhhh" because your muscles are tight and it's releasing them...kinda like a deep tissue massage...kinda hurts, then the muscle relaxes and feels gooood

You are fine to use a medicine ball or pilate ball!!

What you are feeling is the knots being pressured during the stretch. You normally feel the pain dissipate (sp?) rather quickly once the muscle has released.

That medicine ball is doing what some women go to see a massage therapist for and pay $60 a hr! Enjoy the free massage!!

I think I'm going to go get a medicine ball now! My husband is always begging me to walk on his back, I don't mind but it sounds like he might enjoy this more!!

my back always hurts using my fit ball coz my abdominals are way stronger than my back muscles. I have been told by a physio that its important to build strength in the back muscles coz if the abs are way stronger thats when u get sore back muscles.

    Jaizaine...you physio is correct.

It is very important to keep even strength building, so you do not hurt other compensating areas!

So I told my husband about this idea and he gives me this 'duh' response that people have been doing that forever, lol. He used to wrestle and play football and said he would do that when he trained.
