Default So, we might all be getting $5 tips soon..

I posted a thread in DD about the new dollar coins coming out, trying to find out if they are replacing the paper dollar, and then while at the bank I found out that yes, the dollar bills will be slowly phased out.

What do you guys think will happen then? I can't imagine being tipped in coin. Will it be $5 tips from here on out? Or should we invest in tip jar shoes before the price goes up?

I'm curious esp. to hear from the Aussie ladies, since I think over there they have coins for smaller currency.

We play the jug game in western Canada.

I have a little can that I use, I sit on my blanket and the guys throw dollar and two dollar coins into the can. 5 gets them a magnet with my picture, 10 gets them a poster, 20 gets them a larger poster.

The thing with western Canada though is we all have these little things to give away as prizes...

In eastern Canada I get guys who will tip me a $5 on stage once n awhile though...

Likely we'll see funny money become more widespread - like club-issued singles that you trade in for actual money (and likely pay a fee for). That'll happen in some clubs, and others will see tips in the higher $5 denomination but not as many tips. I believe that's the situation in Australia and other countries that only issue coins for denominations less than $5 (or the equivalent).

One of our local clubs has stopped giving away so many singles. They now give you two dollar bills as your change.

It wil take years and years and years before they can phase out all the dolloar bills in use. I wouldn't worry about it to much.

Fuck, I hope it takes awhile. In my club where stage tips are all you get, I'm gonna be pissed off if people start throwing coins at me.

I'll out myself and say that I go with my boyfriend/partner/spouse/husband to SC's at least several times a year. Oh, I'm in Canada, so we have $1 and $2 coins, and the smallest bill is a $5. Anyways...the dancers get $5's, at least. Honestly, we were in Montreal last summer, and I was insulted for the dancers who were getting coins $1 & $2 thrown/put on stage. It's the coin thing...it just seems wrong. And usually, we'll go for breakfast the next morning, and my SO will have a wallet full of $5 bills, a lot of which were used for us/him/me to get up on stage with.

So, the summary of that...I truly hope that the introduction of coin dollars in the US means that tips will increase for you guys.

Heavens, I hope that this has made sense!

Hell yeah. Some Jersey clubs too.

Can you imagine how much a dollar shower would hurt?

ETA: And I find it odd that the dollar bill is still being used as the standard unit anyway. That hasn't changed in what...50years? Inflation people!

I mean, I realize that you can just tip more than one, but, if you live in a place like Jersey, tipping more than one single means you get groped for each dollar you collect. I'd rather get groped once for a larger bill.

Yes we have $1 and $2 coins here.

In most of the clubs Ive worked in the tipping starts at $20 anyway or at least $10 for topless. People dont get anything if they hand over a $5 note or you can do a topless show if you feel like it. Not all clubs are the same though.
Another alternative is that clubs have their own dollars and customers can get their money changed.
But generally speaking, if people hand over a $5 here they are considered to be tight-arses. I think its just different here.

Unless your club will do some sort of jug thing where people can throw their money into it etc.

Some clubs get around the whole $5 min. thing by having their own club currency. Alot of other clubs the patron has to use their own money and no stripper will accept coin... none. It has to be $5 minimum for anything to happen...

It can help separate the real tighties from the not so tight.

It's a blessing and a bane at the same time.

Actually, according the U.S. Treasury, the life-span of a dollar bill is only 18 months. So, potentially they could be gone in that time.

I don't know, man...I fear change. I'm sure it will all work out, either way, though.

I'm all for a jug or something if guys are going to tip in coins once most of the dollar bills are phased out, but I'm not gonna like some drunk asshole throwing coins at my naked cookie. I know it'll happen, because it happens now with certain guys, but I fear that guys will think it's ok unless there is some other way for them to tip with coins.

    Bleh, I fear change too.

Having worked with both tipping systems, I much prefer club currency over $5 notes.

Even with mandatory tipping at the tipping rail, I find that a majority of guys are hesitant to "waste" their five dollar notes at podiums because there's real no incentive to use them. A $5 tip would get them nowhere besides some extra attention from the dancer because it's a $20 minimum for a dance.

As for the $1 tips in club currency, I think it encourages customers to spend more. Since the value of each tip isn't much, this makes them less hesitant to tip and usually once they start and get into the hang of things, they'll keep tipping without paying much attention to how much they're really spending. Customers are also more likely to tip if everyone else is doing it, and that creates great atmosphere for everyone at the club. And let's not forget the fact that every tip adds up. There's been instances where I've had to wear a garter on each leg for my podiums, even when cashing out between each set! I miss those days...

Club currency would suck, cause they charge a fee to give it out AND take a cut when you cash it in.

Well I've said it before in another similar thread, but having $1 & $2 coins certainly doesn't result in an increase of $5 tipping. On a good tipping night, maybe I'll make $15-20 bucks on stage. That's for doing $5 mini dances.

To put it simpler, we just don't have stage tipping here. Coins are a pain, and no one bothers. I haven't worked out West though.

The best stage tipping I've ever had was in Thunder Bay, from Americans, using American bills. They got the Canadians going too.

So, based on what's it's like here, I'd say that coins= no more tipping on stage.

Here it took less than one year. Just so you know.

Yeah, my duumb ass was listening to my boyfriend instead of learnign the facts myself, and he said the've been trying to phase out pennies for 20 years and that still hasn't happened...and then I though tof it a little more.....
They still make pennies, so how can they be phasing them out?

Eh, I dunno. I dont trust my own thinking most of the time. Im usualyl wrong.

In Niagara Falls dancers do "Toonie Slides" on stage primarily. Sure some guys will go up with $5s or more but it is mostly just a shit-load of $2 coins.

To say that they've been "trying" to phase out $1s for 20 years is a bit of a fallacy - when the government decides to really do it, it'll get done. If they've been "trying" before, they've just been trying to let the public do it more or less voluntarily, by offering other alternatives like $1 coins and $2 bills. The public won't give up the $1s until they're simply removed from circulation. It won't take years and years either - I'd say inside 2 years, maybe even less than 1.

England's smallest bill is a 5 and has been for a long time. In clubs where tipping is common, they pass around a jug and guys put in 1 or 2 pound coins which the girls later cash in at the bar. I think removing the $1 bill here in the US is LOOOONG overdue - we're like the only major economy that still has them. Not only are we behind the times, but I'd bet that production costs on a $1 bill are now way too high relative to the $1's worth. I betcha the gov't would save alot of money by just minting $1 and $2 coins instead.

I welcome the change. We can adapt. Strippers and stripclubs always find a way.

I would LOVE the jug system! I don't know about you guys, but when I'm somewhere with dollar/pound coins I spend far more b/c it's 'just a coin'.

It would take some getting used to in places with the Nj style tip walk though. For the guys. Who want to get their whole hand in your top with their dollar.

If I am not mistaken it only took about 9-10 months to phase out the $1 bill here in Canada!!

Club currency has been tried here and miserably failed!

I understand the concern with coins vs. bills....but one thing to remember.....

Men will have an easier time giving $20 in coins vs. a $20 bill. It is easier to lose count of what you are tossing ....amazingly it can add up to $100-$200 on a stage show. This is a PROVEN fact.

In Canada, private dances are NEVER tipped coins, bills only! Stage is the only game place.

I was working during the change here in Canada. I will be the first to admit....I hated the thought of some drunk ass chucking coins at my cookie!!

But when the tip $ started rising on every show...I started to change my mind!!

As Cally said...we use baby beer jugs, cans, rolled up posters, etc.....DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO THROW IT AT YOUR BODY!!! That is DISGUSTING!

The coins have forced girls to become creative to make their stage money...AND PROTECT themselves......now we do the carnival games!!

How many times have you seen a guy at the carnival games, determined to get the prize??? No different here with the prizes we give away.

A standard piece of promo will cost approximately $1...MAX (most are around $0.50).....you will make $5 minimum. If you have something to give the guys...they tip more! There money is actually going for something they can take home with them!

For as many complaints as there are now...when it is all said and done, there will be just as many appreciating the increase in stage tips.

The last few years I worked...I forced the loonie game on every club I worked. The DJ's helped out by asking every guy in the front row to dig out some loonies and toonies, cause the dancer was going to play a game during her show.

During the last song (tipping song), I would bring out 2 pairs of construction safety glasses...one pair for my eyes, and one I put infront of my cookie..... my jug...and promo.

One in gets you a magnet or keychain...2 a lighter or postcard...3 for a large poster...3 in a row for a pipe!! If you HIT the dancer...she WILL hit you back...remember boys you are shooting beaver not deer!!

You learn to egg the guys on by saying..."anyone want to play with me?"....or "so who is the Real Man who can get it in the whole???" A bit of psychology proved that men can not handle having their manhood challenged!!

^^^It's amazing how different it is in Eastern Canada/ Western. Haha, none of the above applies where I dance.

Honestly, the only time I see coins as tips is when the guy gives me the dance price, then says "oh wait", charmingly digs through his pocket, and hands me a fistful of change. Which is seldom, but I take it when it happens.

But we make money from dances, not stage. And for that, you would be surprised how incredible some of these stage dancers are. They do it for sport, I think, and to impress each other, because it's not like it makes us any money.

Oh crap. I think this might go one of two ways.
    1. We start getting tipped in coins which might force some less creative girls out of the business, leaving the rest of us with more money.
    2. (Which I think is more likely) Clubs will allow custies to purchase club money to tip us with which means most of our tips will be recorded for tax purposes.
I personally don't want coins on my stage at all. They are more difficult to pick up than bills and it only takes one coin and one unsuspecting dancer for a serious injury to occur.
