Angry Someone stole 500$ from me!!!!!

Okay, so it was my second time dancing last night in about a year and a half. I made friends with all of the girls and they were really nice to me. Towards the end of the night in the changing room I turned my back for 2 seconds and then all my money was gone from my purse!!!!!!! I put up with a lot of shit for that money and worked my ass off to go home broke! I'm trying to pay for next term's tuition and whoever stole my money is probably just supporting their drug habbit! What pisses me off the most is that they are all so nice to me, I know now that that is all an act! I feel like never going back there again, but I figure I can't let this get me down. I have to stay strong and keep working, I guess I have learnt the hard way never to let my money out of my sight. I feel like crying. I'm going to give it another shot tonight, any words of encouragement would be appreciated!

There is a Jewish concept called tzedakah. Basically it means that a certain cut of your money doesn't actually belong to you, but only moves through you on its way to people who need it worse than you do. And there is always someone who is worse off than you.

I was working at a Jewish preschool several years ago, and one of my fellow teachers was a mother of six children who was also recovering from cancer. Someone stole her wallet right out of her classroom one day. We were all cursing the kind of person who could do such a thing (in a religious preschool, no less) but the woman whose wallet was stolen shrugged. "If they need it badly enough to do something like that," she sighed, "then it must be tzedakah."

I would be fuming if I were you, but there's not much you can do about it except go in again and work harder to make it back. The girl who stole your money is having to go through life completely without ethics or peace, if that's any consolation.

Tzedakah is voluntary... that's why it's called GIVING tzedakah.

Some people are awful. I had 100$ stolen from me, and the next night I mentioned it to all the floor hosts, and how upset I was. They got me a great group of pro baseball players, and I made amazing money, all thanks to one of the hosts. So maybe you can mention it to anyone remotely helpful. (also add that you'd tip them well, of course).

Are there cameras in the dressing room? If so..ask to view security tapes to find out who the thief is.

Yeah, if there are cameras in the dressing room, make them let you see the tapes. If there aren't, you'll eventually find out who took the money anyway, because the girl most likely told somebody what she did.

Anyway, I feel for ya. Hopefully you find out who did it. Did you tell management what happened?

Well, yeah. But looking at it from my former coworker's perspective seems healthier than fuming endlessly when there's nothing to be done about it.

I just don't agree with that idea though, b/c it's letting a thief off the hook. People need to take responsibility. If the thief who took her (your former coworkers) perspective, the thief would further find her actions (theft) to be acceptable.

    not fucking cool.

ya, maybe it made her (coworker) feel better, but it gave the thief further permission.

people need to be punished for their wrongdoings, not excused.

Yeah, stealing is stealing. The woman with cancer may be very forgiving and saintly, but stealing should never be excused. To blow off stealing in that way is basically excusing it. I doubt very seriously if Judaism teaches that thieves should be excused for any reason.

That said, you can't really do anything about it, except make it a hard lesson learned, and then move on to making your money. Remember this incident every time you think about putting your money down ANYwhere, and you'll never lose money like that again. One of the best things I ever learned was to use a garter for my money. Stack it, wrap it half-wise over the garter, wrap a PONYTAIL HOLDER (rubberbands break) around the money, and it will never go anywhere until you remove it.

It's also a good lesson that the girls at work are NOT your friends. As friendly and nice as they may act, they are NEVER friends with a new girl, especially if that new girl is making good money. They may never be your friends, ever. So be civil and polite, but don't think for a second that girl smiling to your face wouldn't stab you in the back, given a chance. It's best to keep to yourself as much as possible, be polite in passing, and just make your money.

OK. Hold your head high and when you go back into work tonight...

    1) Talk with the mgmnt about this. If there are cameras in the DR, perhaps you can review the tapes and find out who the culprit was. If there are no cameras, perhaps you can talk to mgmnt about installing some (this happened at my club. Girl complained about theives and mgmnt installed cameras).

    2) Be polite and professional with the other girls, but do not befriend them or trust them. Pay attention to your surroundings and to the way the girls act around you. Many times the ones who are nicest to you are the ones who stab you in the back the deepest. Don't. Trust. Anyone.

    3) Any way to lock up your money? In a locker?

    4) And now you know to never let your money out of sight.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Remember that revenge is not the way to go, and that karma is a bitch. Whoever stole your $$$ will get theirs. I see it all the time.

Lesson learned. I had this same experience, and it won't happen again because now I am way more careful about what I do. Believe me I know how shitty it feels to have busted your ass all nite to leave with nothing. It is totally being violated!

That said, I feel like you're blaming all the girls in the club for the actions of one bad apple. Those girls who are nice to you probably do really like you, I doubt they were all in on it together

    Wise words.

I'd put the word out in the club about exactly what happened, $500 is an amount that will make other people try to guess who would do such a f*cked up thing while someone's back was turned for a second. The culprit will know that everyone knows & doesn't want it repeated on them.

Don't forget you pretty much can't let your cash out of sight until you put it in the bank- hotel employees, room mates and pickpockets will steal from you, given the chance. One of my exes had a shopping bag of new clothes lifted when he turned his back for 5 minutes in a bar

& Lastly, Karma does happen, I have seen it. Maybe your $500 will be the right amount to take the thief "from the frying pan into the fire" given all the reasons someone would steal that much so opportunistically

Thank you for all your replies, they were very helpful.

Unfortunately there are no cameras in the dressing room and I did tell managment. However all that the manager could do was say how sorry he was that it happened. I'm not blamming all of the girls in the club, I'm just making note that I can't trust anyone anymore and that makes me feel awful! I hate the fact that someone could be so nice to me and then stab me in the back like that. I've really lost my trust in humanity due to this incident, which makes me feel pretty bad. I did learn a valuable lessen last night but it has really hurt me internally. I guess I was just innocent and gullable before.

I do believe in karma and thank you so much to the girls that mentioned it! I am going to go back in tonight, be strong, and hold my head high. Thanks girls!

I might be tempted to put up a sign on the dressing room mirror saying something like, "To the woman who stole $500 from a hard-working coworker last night, take a good look at yourself. You know who you are. Karma will come for you. Sleep tight!"

It was completely awful of that person....I'm very sorry you lost the money. I also believe that the universe takes care of things....it's very hard to keep up such behavior and not get caught. I hope you make lots of money in the days to come.

At work tonight this girl put up signs she'd printed off her computer, on all the mirrors.

"Thieves of the HiLiter: Karma is a bitch and so are YOU. STOP STEALING MAKEUP OUT OF THE LOCKERS!"

    Hehe.

Sorry that happened, it is ultra shitty. I guess just tell yourself you may have spent it on something that would have decreased your quality of life. One time, years ago, I accepted a bunch of counterfiet $. Not $500, more like $400. Essentially it is the same thing, and I felt so dumb. I did so much research on fake money and now no Counterfiet $ will EVER get past me. Take it as an expensive lesson
