    Default Suicide Prevention Hotlines

Okay, let's not make a big deal about it, I'm not planning on offing myself. I'm having a lot of issue with my agoraphobia lately which has forced me to be stuck in my house for about a month this time and I'm about to lose my lucrative stripping job over it, hah.

So has anyone ever called a prevention hotline before? I was wondering what I could expect and if it would actually be helpful at all. You can PM if you'd prefer not to air it--I'm being pretty open I suppose, but whatever.

    Thanks

I've not, but I used to go to some chat rooms to help when I was having a hard time and didn't want to exit the home. Not exactly the same circumstances, but it's all I can recommend.

Yes, but I can't really remember how the conversation went. It was over a year ago and I'd probably been drinking too. I remember him being very calm and relaxing. I was crying at one point. He said they would call back to check up on me and never did

There was this helpline in PA I called a few times. Not a sucicide line exactly, just a person to listen to whatevr your problems are. The nic ething abou tcalling them was, all they did was listen. Not offer advice, just listen. For as long as you needed them to. SO you could call them and pour your heart out for 5 hours, and they'd listen. Completly unjudgmental.

However...if you call a sucide hotline, aren't they required to report that? Since your admitting to be a threat to yourself?
    I dont know...

They also had information for about everything you could call and get. Like, where to find abortion clinics, welfare, childcare, health insurance...anything like that.

Hmm, I can't remember if it was a suicide hotline or helpline now. I think I made a comment about not wanting to live anymore, but that isn't exactly a threat right?

I believe, from checking out some other forums, they will ask you off the bat if you are currently suicidal and if you say yes, they have to report it to 911. Otherwise, whatever goes on, goes on.

Thanks a bunch for the information, ladies. I want to be able to call somewhere that can give me help on where I could check myself in at or go to since I don't have insurance but have some overwhelming agoraphobia and anxiety. I have a lot of people in my life that will listen to me vent honestly, if I want, so I'm more concerned with actually getting something done.

I have called one before and one lady told me I should go have sex with husband. The other told me to go to the hospital without as much as listening. So, they basically blew me off.

That's correct. The only other time that they will call the cops is if you say you want to hurt other people.

Hotlines never really did that much for me, other than just telling me to go to the doctor/hospital.
