Default So bored with my hair! What should I do?

I've had my natural brown with highlights for soooo long now, I'm tired of it! I want a big change, but I don't want to damage my hair too much, and I want to keep it long.. I know, tough, huh? Here's a pic of my hair, please forgive the fact that it's a tad on the oily side because I didn't wash it today. What do you all think? What would you do if you were my stylist and I let you run wild with it?

    Thanks!

i really like your hair the way it is (i'm trying to grow mine out to something similar) but maybe lighten the colour a little?...i'm not sure if it's just the lighting in the picture, but especially around the top of your head it looks a little...blah...maybe some lighter highlights? maybe a few lowlights as well...

^^^ yeah, it's been growing out for a few months since I had my highlights retouched. It's a little lighter in real life than in the picture, but still pretty blah.

What are lowlights? I've heard the word before, but I never understood what they were...

Maybe go blonde and do a Carmen Diaz thing!

Your hair reminds me of my hair

For me personally I would go darker not lighter. It depends on your skin complexion tho'... darker would look good on me (more brunette, less blonde).

I think you would look great blonde!! ..but maybe dye your hair a shade or two darker brown(a little darker then your roots) and maybe curl it? not crazy curl kinda just like victorias secret hair like LR says haha.

If you want a big change without damage, your only option is to go darker. Going lighter will require high lift permanent color (if you don't get color applied between your foils when you go in for highlights) or bleach. To go darker, a demi-permanent color should be used which won't damage the hair at all. You could also go red, but judging from your picture, I don't think that would be your best option.

IMHO, I would really like to see you go blonde. A nice rich, warm dark blonde base with gold and beige highlights. It would take a while becuase in order to control the damage I'd have to do several heavy highlights over the course of several months.

Second choice would be to go with a rich, warm, medium brown with subtle toffee and caramel highlights. I think this pic gives you a good idea of what I'm thinking, except the blonde in the pic is too light for you- it's a good example of the warm effect I'm thinking about, but that nice, rich dark blonde peice in her bangs is what I would make dominant in your color.

Lowlights are peices of darker color woven into lighter hair. They are great in hair that has been highlighted so many times that the overall effect of the color is monochromatic rather than multi tonal. Weaving in darker peices of hair gives the overly highlighted hair more dimension. You can also use lowlights to add a pop of color to the hair- peices of red, copper, and burgandy are commonly used when clients want to subtly or cautiously expeiriment with their color.

^^^ Awesome, thanks so much for all the info!

In that pic, you're talking about the girl on the left, the "blonde" one, right?

Can I just go to my stylist and ask for a "rich, dark blonde"?

Hmm.. you know what I just remembered? I heard somewhere that only people who were blonde as a child can pull off blonde as adults. My hair was jet black when I was born, and lighted up later -- I looked like a little mexican baby, lol... People in the hospital didn't believe my blonde mum when she said I was hers.. Hahaha... Anyway.. Do you really think I can pull off blonde, even a dark one?

^ i was blonde until i was 4, then my hair went almost jet black. I still cant pull off blonde hair. closet i can get is my av, but that was the first day i got my highlights and there are almost black already. I really think you could pull off blonde hair though. I think it would look so hot!!

I'm talking about both colors... I'd go either way with you but the blonde is my first choice. In this pic, I'm talking Ashley, not Jessica...

another option I forgot about would be peek a boo color... kinda like this blonde

Anyway, whatever you decide to do, bring pictures!!! Color is so subjective and pictures are the only way to be able to clearly communicate what you want.

I love your cut the way it is. I agree with everyone else that the thing to do is a drastic color change. I think you'd be smokin hot as a blonde. ^Those shades are great.

I think you would look super hot if you went blond. I also think chocolate brown would look really good on you. It would look great with your skintone.

Those Jessica Alba colors are great. They arent too light so they shouldn't be as damaging as a platinum or sand blonde. I really love the multi-tones. I think the two-tones would look great on you, and would go especially well with your hair-cut.

i'm not sure about the really light blondes on you - i think they might wash you out a little bit...then again, i might be biased - i've never been a big fan of blonde hair

Your hair sort of reminds me the way mine used to be. I think you should make it darker with some highlights in it... like I did.

    Bella you look great!

To the OP...Your hair reminds me of my hair a long time ago. I went for honey blonde highlights and some lowlights, like I have in my avatar. You could probably go a little lighter than I did. The nice thing a bout highlights/lowlights is that if you want to go a little lighter, you can add a few more highlights...or if you want to go a little darker, add lowlights.
