I made serious money and I'm putting myself through medical school at 19 because of stripping. If someone uses it in a positive way, I see no problem with it.
As to showing my face, several well known members have seen my face, but I just don't give it to anyone, sorry. Privacy issues, I have no idea who you are.

I had several big sisters when I was growing up and all of them were great, with the exception of one. I plan on signing up soon as well. Only one word of caution..many kids who get big bro's/sisters are used to hearing their friends brag about being showered with gifts. I'd say 98% of all my friends would get toys, clothes, etc on the regular. I once asked my big sis (as I look back, I feel like a baby hustler lol) "When are you going to take me shopping?"
She nicely and calmly explained to me that being a big sister to me was not about material things, but moreso working to be my mentor and makesure that I stay on the right path in my life. Then she said something like, "now isn't that more valuable than clothes" so I had to agree with that lol..

SC congrats on the Big Sisters, it is an awesome program to be involved with.

I totally agree and applaud you! It is a great thing you are doing. I have always wanted to do the same but have been afraid of the job thing. Now that I have my lil one I don't think I would have time for it. But I am so glad that you are working to try to improve someone else's quality of life.

I'll let everyone know how the background checks go and what they ask for.
Congrats! I want to do that too but I don't think I'm sufficiently stable. Maybe someday!

I once applied to be a Big Brother, but was turned down. I think I was too honest during the screening questions about my recreational habits, lol. Also I looked really, really young then, I had a baby face for many years and people always guessed I was in high school, well after I graduated from college.
But the group of guys applying with me did not seem like they would be able to relate to the kids--too preppy by far, I was annoyed. Who knows, maybe they were better than I was, though. And who cares what happened to me way back then in that one place? It's a great program, I applaud your decision.

Well it's been a long time and maybe they changed that, but I doubt they will.

Don't tell them you're a stripper if you really want to be a part of the program. Its great that you don't see a problem with it, but realistically, think about how the rest of the world functions.

It was kind of a good thing too, because now I'm far too busy myself.
I was a big sister for a couple years, and I am grateful for the experience, but I agree with Cinammonkisses- my kid was always trying to hustle me to take her shopping!!! Also, I recieved a lot of discrimination from the organization for being a dancer. (I was also a full-time student.)
I think that you will probably have more fun and be able to make more of a difference if you ask for a younger child, and NO- don't tell them you smoke pot.
I looked on the application and it asks for place of employment and several references. Darn...
