Backstory:
Inspired by this video:
and the facts that 1 the stage leaves black marks on skin occasionally,
2 I'm pretty sure I got staph infection from the stage and
3 the stage is hard on my knees
I went out and bought a blanket similar to the one in the video and have been using it on stage for the last 2 or 3 weeks. It's been great! I don't get dirty, I don't bruise my knees, and rich older men commend me for looking classy (it's a furry red blanket, looks luxurious/sexy!)
A few other girls have made fun of me for it, or just given me weird looks, but whatevs. Most just don't seem to notice or care.
But today on a side stage I had it with me just sitting there (no tipping customers= no reason for floorwork) and a manager came up and said:
M: is this part of your clothes
me: what?
M: oh... is this a blanket?(condescending tone)
me: yes...
M: oh girl, you can't have this here!
me: what? (exaggerating)but i am using it because I hurt my knee...
M: we don't want to start a thing. we can't have you using this or else in a week all the girls will be doing it! so just use it until your knee is better and that's all, ok? (leaves)
WTF? first of all, I've been using it and no one has copied me whatsoever, and second of all, what would be the problem if other girls did anyway? I just don't see how it would be bad.
I'm not going to stop using it. The DJs said they liked it when I first started using it, and other managers have seen it and not said anything.
I'm just the weird girl who wipes the pole down with alcohol before her sets and uses a blanket for floorwork, so who cares?!
what do you think i should do?
