    Default Laser hair removal

Have anyone here had laser hair removal?
I've talked to a girls that was very satisfied, but I've also read that it doesn't work that well for all?
I'm becoming more and more tempted by the idea of having it done permanent.
    Appreciate any experiences.

it works i've had it done, but it works better on darker hair. so if you have blond or red hair it might not work as well

Emily had it done a little while ago and posted pics, and there was a great thread about it: http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82667

yeah, I did it. I just did 4 treatments, and 2 more to go.

My only gripe is after a treatment you get a few nasty ingrown hairs. But once they are gone, they are gone for good, so I guess it's worth it.

I pretty much don't have shave anymore. The few hairs that I have left are very fine too.

it's annoying, but not painful. It's not any worse than waxing....just takes longer.

I don't know about pain relievers. I never asked. It's really not that bad.

    Sorry for the slight thread-jack!!

For those who were satisfied with their laser treatments... Do you know what type of laser was used??

I did 5 treatments with the Sonata laser system and the results were some hairless patches and most of the hair coming back as usual. I'm just wondering if it was the laser that didn't work on me or something the operator was doing wrong.

I'm in the process of having 6 treatments done with the IPL Palomar laser. I've hade 3 treatments done on my bikini line, and underarm, and 2 treatments everywhere else. I'm getting my full body done. The bikini line has been the most successful, every other area I don't find all of the hair coming out, only some, which is a bit disappointing because it is sooo expensive. My results will be different than someone with fair skin though, as I have darker skin. It is not painful at all... just feels like pin pricks, if even. If you have fair skin and darker hair go for it... there's no reason you won't be happy, especially if you get IPL which is supposedly a lot less painful than traditional lasers.

I had a friend who did it on her bikini and underarms and she swears by it. I think she had to do 6 treatments. I remember her hair was still there after a few treatments, but thiner. To never have and ingrown hair or to shave again... Hell ya!

Um I think it hurts really bad. I used to wax myself and I had no problems at all with that but to me the laser feels like a hot needle stabbing me. They use The Lightshear at the place I go to and I have had really good results. I have had 5 treatments and I only need one more.I have like one patch left but other then that I havent shaved in over a month. But yeah the pain is intense but DEFINITELY worth it for me.

I used to do waxing, and have just started doing laser hair removal. I find it to be excrutiatingly painful, opposed to waxing which i don't think hurts that much at all. I think she might have just had the laser on a higher setting. I am seeing lots of improvement already though, and i still have three more treatments to go. I do have dark hair though and light skin, which really helps the process. Thick, dark, dense hair on lighter skin works the best. Blond on light skin isn't a very good candidate

actually, it does feel like a hot needle! I guess I don't find it that horrible.

Does your clinician use a cool touch laser? it cools the skin before zapping it. That helps a lot. Also, treatments get less intense as you go on.

Um I think they do, what does the cool touch feel like? And I agree that the treatments do get less intense each time.

the laser gun has a thing on it that makes it feel like ice. So they put it on your skin for like a second to cool it, and then ZAP (burn). It def helps.

I've got an appointment for my first session (full legs) on the 27th! (lightsheer iirc)

At my consultation, they told me many people get good results on the legs with 4 sessions, but some need 6. I can't wait! I'd be thrilled with even a 50% reduction. I hate shaving every day and having stubble by the end of the day

Well I went today for my first session (full legs) At the clinic I went to, the cost is $650 per session (most people need 4-8 sessions) for full legs. I have very dark brown hair and extremely white skin (though I have a bit of a tan right now)

I didn't shave for about a week beforehand so they could see the hair growth and for photos. After taking pics, they had me shave before the treatment. They used a numbing cream on my lower legs about 20 mins before the laser treatment. They said the lower legs are more sensitive and the hair is thicker.

The laser used was the LightSheer diode laser (with previously mentioned "chill tip". I didn't notice the cooling effect of the chill tip much. The gel they put on my skin for the laser to glide on was pretty damn cold itself. I think I twitched more when they applied the cold gel than I did while they were zapping hairs!

The spot size of the laser is pretty small 1" x 1" or less. When the laser light hit a hair on the skin, I could feel it get zapped. It felt almost like the individual hair was getting tweezed. The thicker hairs were noticeably more painful. You could hear the thicker hairs get zapped. Almost like a crackling sound. It hurt, but each follicle would only hurt for a second when it got zapped, then the skin surrounding the follicles got a bit swelled and red, like little bumps on my legs. After treating each part of my legs, they put witch hazel-soaked gauze strips on my skin to soothe it.

My appointment was at 2pm today. I left the clinic at 4pm. It's 7pm now and I can still feel the slight numbing effect on my skin on my lower legs. It was painful, but I don't think it's any more painful than when I used my Emjoi http://www.emjoi.com/ (epilator that pulls the hairs out like tweezers) on my legs. The pain was about what I expected. It hurt enough that I KNOW it's going to suck when I get my full bikini done, but I think it will be worth it! I think anyone who is used to waxing wouldn't have too much of a problem with the pain. Personally, I never got used to the pain of waxing, so I just shave my legs and kitty. I use my epilator for my underarms.

Right now my legs look totally normal, other than a few dark spots that I think are from ingrown or thicker hairs that got zapped and are under the surface or where a bit of hair and a miniscule drop of blood got zapped. The little dark spots rub off. I think most will be gone after I shower. Some follicles are a little pink, but you have to look really close to tell.

It will be a while before I can post anything about results, because it will take a while for the zapped hairs to shed and see what the result of one treatment is. But I will post pics later of my leg hair before I shaved and immediately after treatment and again once the results of one treatment can be seen.

I hope this little bit of info is helpful for anyone considering laser. I'll post more info as I go!

Well, I decided to do legs first for a few different reasons...

My honey is paying for it and my cactus legs bother him the most. He's asian (almost no body hair) When I'm in a hurry, I'll skip shaving my legs but I'll usually shave the kitty if I even have 2 mins to spare. If I shave in the morning, I have stubble by bedtime...so he gets subjected to cactus legs more than anything else LOL. Shaving my legs takes more of my shower time than anything else, so getting my legs done first is more of a time and aggravation saver for me.

I also knew that I'd deal with the pain on my legs better than the kitteh so I thought I'd do legs first as a warm up Heh. We're already planning on doing the kitty next. Now I have an idea of how much it will hurt so I can be prepared. I may start on that next time I go in for my legs. My underarms and arms will be last. I use an epilator on my underarms. I don't have to do it as often, so it's less of a bother. I only have to shave my arms once a week, so it's also less of a priority.

Today my legs still look pretty much normal. You have to look close to see that the follicles are a bit pink and I have a few dark spots that look like freckles. I can feel that the skin is a tiny bit swollen and sore (almost like a sunburn, but without the redness and surface irritation). My legs have less stubble than they normally would by now (24 hrs after shaving) so I guess many of the follicles that were in the active growth stage yesterday have been killed. They say that the hair growth cycle is 8-12 weeks, so I imagine by that time, my legs will be hairy again and those follicles in the growth cycle will be ready to be zapped.

I can't wait to get more zapped!

I got my first under arm treatment and it is way less painful then my brazillian, and I got it done for free! Plus they are having a half off sale right now at the place I go to so I am only gonna end up paying 220 for my six treatments.

Has anyone used Emla cream (name brand lidocaine) to help with the pain? It's topical and works very well to numb the skin. I use it for some of my tattoo work that gets into those areas I can't sit still in (kidneys, stomach, didn't help much with ribs). In Canada it's over the counter but here you can either get a prescription or order it from Canada.
