    Your Diet?

I'm trying to lose about 30 pounds before dancing... give or take, working out/muscle gain will vary the actual number.

Anyway, I was wondering what you eat in a typical day or if you follow a specific published diet what is it?

What do you eat normally and what about when you are trying to slim down?

    What about workout routines?

    Thanks in advance

I drop down to about 1300 calories a day which is okay for my 5'3" body with a small frame. I basically follow the Weight Watchers diet. I can eat just about anything I please but in limited quantities. I also cut out soda completely. I don't drink alcohol anymore either. I just drink lots of water and occassionally have unsweet iced tea, a lot of hot and herbal teas and tomato juice. High fiber, low fat and low calorie is key. Pilates keeps me toned. I am not saying I am a model by any means but I have lost a fair amount of weight and keep it off this way.

    Lots of good info here:

    http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91596

Also, as far as diet...I could go on forever.

-I eat lots of fruit and veggies throughout the day.

-Drinking nothing but water all day. If I want caffeine I'll treat myself to some sweet iced tea once or twice a week.

-I substitute soymilk or ricemilk for wholemilk. Substitute wheat bread for whitebread. All salad dressings, cottage cheese, etc. is all lowfat.

-I don't drink soda at all unless I am at work and drinking it as a mixer, but this isn't much.

-I spread healthy meals and snacks througout the day to keep the metabolism going.

-Also try to cut red meat intake and eat lots of chicken and fish.

    Good luck.

I've gotten into the habit of having 2 glasses of juice in the Am for breakfast.
a green juice, and a berry juice. I buy Bolthouse farms green goodness and blue goodness, both are very tasty, and thick enough that they are filling. I add extra fiber to them tho. I just put a little extra fibersure in the juice and shake it up. That helps keep me fuller longer.

Then I fill a gallon jug of water, and keep it near me all day. I add a little more fibersure to my water to help me feel full.

For a midmorning snack, I have a pouch of oatmeal, or a small bowl of Total.

Lunch is soup of some kind usually, with some bread.
    Dinner is whatever.

I try to snack on sugar free jello fat free pudding or string cheese.

This isnt a slim down diet, its just habits Ive gotten into lately that are healthy.

High fiber low fat is what I focus on. Also try to watch your sodium, cause it bloats.

Cut out all Soda, even diet. That helps a ton!!

Only thing I cannot give up is my pizza, but when Im trying to watch myself, I wil not order cheesy breadsticks, and try to have 3 slices of pizza.
( yeah, it nto great, but way better than an order of cheesy breadsticks, and 5 slices of pizza. Thats probably 2,500 cal. right there!)
I actually hvent had pizza in 3 days now, which is an amazing feat for me.

    For workout
I love the trekmill at the gym. It is a treadmill that goes up to a 50% incline. I love doing that for 45 minutes, and vary the speed, the incline, always changing it, so it dont get boring and I can make it the 45 minutes.
The next 15 minutes I do the stairclimber.
Stability ball exercizes for my tummy, lunges and squats for my ass and legs, and a few weight machines for my arms and back.

Moderate eating doesn't seem to work for me - perhaps because I lack discipline - but i am more of an all-or-nothing dieter. What works for me is to avoid all refined foods and sweets (white bread, sugar, baked treats, candy, etc.). Yet I eat whatever else I want (fatty, fried, protien rich food - cheese, chips, steak, etc.). I have noticed it keeps the extra off.

I cut down on refined crap and have lots of veggies, fruits and lean meats.

    Also, smaller portions.

I don't eat much to begin with, but when I do eat, I go towards more healthy foods like chicken, soy, and tofu. I would add salad on this list, but I make mine very fattening. Then I eat whatever I crave. One day I will crave protein and eat lots of chicken, another day I will crave carbs and live on granola, and today I craved fat and had an icky cheeseburger with oily fries. It depends. I am also really active. For a long time I was 5'2" and 165 pounds. I concentrated on eatting healthy, but didn't completely cut out all of the bad stuff. I just lessened it so I didn't feel bad if I did eat chocolate. (Once a month, it's on!) Also, Billy Blanks was my god for at least a year straight. I did it almost everyday and could see the changes in my body. That's what kept me going. Now I'm 106 and feeling good about myself. Kick butt girl!

i tend to try to avoid eating out when i'm worried about my weight - eating at home gives me way more control over what goes in my food, how it's prepared, and how much i eat (i feel bad leaving half of my meal uneaten at a restaurant, but i also can't be bothered to take it home...if i'm already at home, it's no extra work to put whatevers left in the firdge if i made too much)

i gave up drinking anything but water unless i'm having a specific craving (sometimes i need my cherry coke, but i won't have it just because i'm thirsty)

there is no junk food in my house, but if i really really want it, there's nothing stopping me from going out and getting some, but it's at least a 3km walk to the store and back again, and i usually take the stairs (i live on the 16th floor)

i will not take transit for less than 3-4km unless i'm running late or the weather is really gross - so i walk a LOT

For weight loss, I cut out fast food, soda, junk food and (before I stopped drinking) lay off the booze. Drink lots of water.

Talk brisk walks. Work up to 30-45 minutes a few times a week.

Eat a little less, move a little more.

If I want to lose weight, I combine 1000 calories a day (with 1100-1200 on alternate days if I'm plateauing- mixing it up keeps my metabolism ticking along) with a Shangri-la diet supplement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shangri-la_Diet). Works for me, though not everyone will be into calorie counting (which, admittedly, can get rather tedious and requires a fair bit of thought).

    I also don't drink.

To maintain my weight, I simply tack on extra calories (anything up to 500, depending on how my body reacts to the extra food), but otherwise continue as before.

I only exercise when the mood takes me, which is almost never. I also do not have a job involving physical activity and am in general lazy, lazy, lazy. I never walk when I can drive. Hence why I need less calories than the average active chickadee.

I don't count calories, mainly just watch my portions. High fiber cereal for breakfast, veggies, and tons of fruit throughout the day. My protein comes from soy milk, fish, and tofu. Very rarely I eat red meat or chicken.

Thanks everyone! I have been drinking a ton of water.

I think my main thing is just not eating when my body isn't physically asking for it.

I love food so much, it makes it hard not to eat for the sake of enjoying food.

I read South Beach, and while I don't buy into it completely, a lot of it makes sense to me and seems to be pretty well grounded scientifically, which you'd hope for with a cardiologist for an author.

I'm on a different food discipline, largely based on that book (until the next batch of nutritional studies come along). So far, the results are good. There's no counting, no major label reading, the discipline is plenty doable for unorganized days like mine, and the body is responding positively. We'll see how the long run goes.

I follow a semi-paleo diet, meaning the bulk of my food/staple is leans meat/seafood, nuts, fruits and veggies. And then I have everything else in moderate amounts.

This diet has allowed me to clear up my skin entirely and lose my bloat and extra body fat. I think it's a good general guideline for everyone....more protein, fruits and veggies in one's diet.

Please pardon my ignorance, but why do you substitute soy milk/rice milk for whole milk and wheat bread for white bread?

Whole milk has alot more calories and fat than soy or rice milk.

Wheat bread helps stabilize your blood sugar levels better than white bread which are also part of refined carbs. Refined carbs are not good for you when dieting.

^Thanks for answering that, TM. Perfect! Now that I've been doing this for so long, I ssooo prefer ricemilk or soymilk and just can't stand the taste of whole milk anymore, feels like I'm drinking liquid lard.

I use the Shangri-La diet (http://headrush.typepad.com/creating...rangest_e.html) combined with the following principles: alternating my calories and also keeping them within a reasonable range, snacking on healthy foods between meals, meeting my nutritional needs with a diet of mostly healthy foods (particularly focusing on getting enough fibre, protein, calcium, folate, iron and B12), daily walking (alternating my walks: long on one day, short the next) and trying to eat only out of hunger most of the time. Doing this, I've met my original lower weight goals and am currently fine-tuning things. I'm also managing to keep my weight steady within a 1kg/2.2lb range most of the time.

I lost a lot of weight really fast doing the Atkins last year. It's not a long term thing, though... and I'd recommend talking to your DR (if you have one) when you go on it.

For my regular diet, I generally avoid carbs. When I want to drop a few pounds, I cut out booze and eat more salads.

I also throw on some headphones and go for a walk every day (well, except for the days that I'm working). Even if I can only get out for half an hour, it's good to get a bit of exersize in.
