    Okay all you little chefs!

I need to bring a dish to a BBQ. Any ideas? Maybe potato salad? Anyone got a good recipe?

I make great bbq beans, but I don't have a real recipe..just guide lines. Dice and fry 2-3 slices of bacon (or to taste) in 1 tsp olive oil. Add 1/2 -1 yellow onion, diced and saute until tender. Dump in a large can of Bush's or VandeKamp's baked beans. Add ketchup, mustard and brown sugar to taste. Let simmer. Retaste and adjust seasoning. You can make as much or as little as you like depending on how many cans of beans you use.

Bella, do you have to bring a dish? Could you perhaps bring a beverage? How about homemade rasberry lemonade...

    Or dessert?

I'll be honest, when most people think of BBQ and they have to bring a dish, this is the first thing they think of brining. I dont think you should make the potatoe salad. I can already imagine how many people r gonna be bringing the same thing. Same goes for string beans. I'll think of something.

Copied and pasted from another post because I knew I'd shared it here before... this is K's absolute favorite treat ever, and it's what I usually bring to a BBQ. I brought it to a few at first and now everyone demands it. It's just as good without the steak if you've got a lot of vegetarians or you just feel like leaving it out. Just make sure you let it marinate for at least eight hours, because it NEEDS to marinate or it's nowhere near as good. Make it the night before and it'll be great for the BBQ.

    -

Our favorite snack around here is black bean and corn dip. I vary it up whenever I make it, but here's the general idea... sometimes I leave out the steak, sometimes I leave out the green onions, whatever. It's pretty flexible. I've also never actually measured the ingredients; I just eyeball it, so adjust it if you want until it looks right. Just remember you have to let it marinate for at least a day and preferably overnight - it'll be hard to avoid diving in, but it's really much better if you let it sit for awhile!

    2 cans corn, drained
2 cans black beans, drained and rinsed
    1/2 cup olive oil
1 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar (yep, that much)
    1 Tbsp chili powder
    3 Tbsp cumin
    1 steak
    Chopped fresh garlic to taste
    Green onions, sliced

In a medium bowl, mix olive oil, balsamic vinegar, chili powder, and cumin. Whisk together with a fork until blended and set aside. Sprinkle the steak with garlic and a little balsamic vinegar and cook to desired degree of doneness (you can grill it, broil it, whatever). Slice the steak into very tiny pieces and add to the corn and beans. Add the dressing and mix it all up. Let it sit in the fridge for at least a day, checking it after a few hours to see if it needs more vinegar or cumin. Just before serving, add the green onions. Serve with tortilla chips.

This one always goes over big whenever I bring it to a party. So easy too and you can double it if you need to.

    Antipasto Salad

    1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
1/3 cup bottled red wine vinegar dressing
1 small head romaine, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 7-ounce jar roasted red peppers, drained and cut into thin strips
    1 12-ounce jar pepperoncini, drained
8 ounces marinated bocconcini, or 1 large mozzarella ball, cut into strips
    8 ounces sliced pepperoni
1 12-ounce jar marinated artichoke hearts, drained and cut into halves (if not already halved)
    1 cup oil-cured black olives
1/2 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes

Chop the basil leaves in a food processor. Add the salad dressing and process until smooth. Combine the remaining ingredients in a bowl and toss with the basil dressing. Cover and set aside at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to blend the flavors.

German potatoe salad - It is SO yummy. I use a little less vinager and more broth and I leave the skin on the potatoes because I like them that why. But it is awesome!

Target sells boxes of gourmet pasta salads (warm and cold ones) that are really good. Pasta salad is so much better than potato and the cold ones are great for a hot summer day. Get a few of those and throw on some really good grated cheese and maybe some other add ins. Super easy, quick, and yummy!

i just made the yummiest taco salad that a friend gave the the recipe for...my kind of cookin! throw it all in one bowl and mix! lol

1 lb of ground meat cooked (turkey, beef, vegi meat, whatever)
    handful of shredded cheese
1 can of kidney beans (just drain and throw them in)
1/2 -1 bag of romain lettuce (already torn apart)
a few big handfuls of crushed up nacho doritos or equivalent
a few heaping tablespoons of salsa
some sliced olives if you want
and the secret ingredient (weirded me out at first...but YUM!).... 1/3 cup of ZESTY italian dressing!

throw it all in a big bowl and mix it up! it only took a few minutes to do since i just bought that taco shredded cheese and then cooking the meat (although i use vegetarian "meat" )

I ended up making Yek's dip and some deviled eggs. The picnic isn't until tomorrow but ooohhh my god, Yek's recipe is amazing! I'm trying not to eat it all before tomorrow!
