    Default depression after surgery

I have my rhinoplasty consult in a few weeks. They sent me out a brochure saying that it's pretty common and normal for people to feel a little depressed after surgery.

I am already prone to depression so it's freaked me out a little.

Anyone who has had plastic surgery felt depressed afterwards?

I didn't feel depressed after my otoplasty (ear pinning). But Im really nervous about rhino coz it will be a big change to my appearance.

I got a lil depressed but not like I needed therapy or meds or anything. I mean think about it being inside for so long not being able to do regular things. Or eat regular things because I couldnt use my arms to make stuff.

I mean I didn't think it was hot to go to the bars with titties up to my chin in recovery time. As soon as I went back to work and got to mingle with like people and go out and do regular things and wear regular clothes I felt better.

Just eat really clean and you'll be fine. I wish I could go back and not eat the cheesy pasta that also gave me food poisoning while recovery. Get out and get some sun if you can too. Schedule some lunchtime with friends and treat yourself to something nice like a pedicure. The only thing you'll be missing out on is pole tricks and exercise so don't worry much at all.

i think you feel depressed because you are expecting a rapid change and a rhino takes a while to see the results. It will look funny (mostly to you, not anyone else) for a while. Plus, the anesthesia and pain meds can mess with your head a bit.

Just rent a bunch of funny movies and have friends handy....i didnt find the recovery that bad. Yes,they say 6 weeks...but i was working out pretty shortly after.

i'm also prone to depression, and found that i was kinda down starting 3 or 4 days after surgery (pretty much as soon as i was coherent again - anaesthesia messes me up pretty badly) that lasted a few weeks...i had an abdominal hernia repair and a BA done at the same time, so i couldn't use my arms OR my abs for a good 10 days...once i could get out of bed without help, things got a little better...and after about 3 weeks, when most of the swelling was gone and i was actually able to get out and do stuff, i was better than ok...

    jaizaine--

The swelling will change from person to person. I had a very roman nose, with a boxy tip. my surgeon primarily did implants and lipo, so doing a rhino was kind of different for him although he could do it. I had my implants at the same time and so i didnt even notice any pain from the nose, because those hurt so badly!!

I am of mediteranean descent so i swelled more. It just depends on the kind of tissue in your nose and what you are changing. I had the top bump taken out and the tip refined. When you first see it after the bandages come off, about a week, you might have a lot of swelling. It works its way down, so at first it may be the bridge is swollen, then eventually just the tip. It wont be like freakishly huge, just noticeable to you and yes, it will be kind of upsetting at times but just be assured, that is NOT your nose!!

The swelling started to go down around a few weeks and actually take 6months to a full year to completely go down. I see pictures and i can see the transition...my nose is a lot smaller and more feminine now (2 years post op) than it was about 4 months after the surgery.

What are you having done to your nose??

I also recommend taking this stuff called Sinecch before your surgery for a couple days..really cuts down on the bruising and its all natural.

today is the seventh day since i had my rhinoplasty!
recovery was way more uncomfortable than i ever imagined, but not really painful. I am so happy because today I got the packing out and I can actually BREATHE through my nose. It feels amazing, lol!
I am also prone to depression, and find myself going back and forth on whether or not I like it. For the most part I really love it already. And all the negative thoughts going through my head I just try to ignore because...its only been a week and i still have the bandage/tape covering most my nose! I just tell myself that my nose is probably still swollen some and will just get better as time goes on. The more i look at it, the more used to it i get, and the more i seem to like it.

pm me if you wanna know any thing else about my surgerY!
