Default Some people will do anything to avoid work

Before I danced I had many different jobs - mostly in retail. It always cracked me up the lengths some people would go to just to avoid actually working.

In one retail job many people would find any excuse to go out to the storeroom and pretend to sort stuff out just to avoid serving customers.

At another job we had one older man who was known for slacking off and one day he couldn't be found anywhere. Someone finally found him in a room with all the lights turned off hiding under a table.

Anyone else got funny stories about slackers?

I have some about myself, haha -

I was a busboy at a CiCi's Pizza (for those who don't have the - its a chain of a pizza buffet) - I was the only busboy they had for 6 months of the year I worked there, and I worked from the second I got out of school until 1 am every day, and all day on Saturday and Sunday. One Sunday after a weekend of doubles that involved a little league baseball tournament that meant hundreds of extra customers in the form of starving little messy boys running all over the place - I started doing my closing duties and got too tired, so I climbed up (there was a huge shelf/stand thing that had a huge big screen tv on it) behind the tv and curled up and crashed out. I woke up 30 minutes later and heard my manager on the phone talking to the manager at another cici's and he was joking about how he was pretty sure his bus boy had died behind the tv so he had to go.

I also once was at a work sponsored barbecue and was going to have to leave early to go in to work that night - so I called in from the work party. It was kinda funny.

Slacker? I live next door to my work (literally 15 steps) and I'm 10 minutes late every single day. I do work very hard when I'm there, though!

I worked at this upscale italian restruant as a server assistant.
We were not allowed breaks, unless we were minors or pregnant.

My feet hurt sooooo bad I would say I needed to use the restroom, just to go sit in the toilet for a few minutes and rest my feet.

    I quit after 3 days.

I worked at this nursing home, it was my very first job, and I had to be there at 6am, and I am NOT a morning person, so I was always sleepign in or callign off.
I started makign up these pretty big excuses when I called off, liek my friend was in labor and I had to take her to the hospital, or my cat died.

One day on my way into work, I slipped on a patched of ice and flipped my car down an embankment.
I caleld in and told them I just wrecked and coulnd't make it in to work. They didnt believe me, and fired me.

I worked in the returns/book balancing area in Target at 17, and I was supposed to spend 4 hours trying to see who gets refunded 12.50 and who gets refunded 43.67. I gave everyone $70. They never found out. No one had a return over $70 so I just did it.

I worked at a restaurant and the owner was a major prick. He paid us minimum wage although we had to deal with these HORRIBLE customers (it was in a rich area of town). It was one of those "you have to always be working, I don't pay you to stand there" kind of places. Like, if there were no customers and all the salt shakers were filled, clean under the cash register. I would hide in the back freezer for as long as I could take it (which wasn't more than five minutes, but still) and eat frozen chocolate chips.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

I did the same when I worked for Honeybaked Ham. Nothing to do when it wasn't holiday season (except clean every fecking surface... twice), so I used to hide out and eat cheesecake sample trays. Mmm, frozen cheesecake bits.

I worked at Subway for my first job. This one girl there and I used to hide out in the back when there weren't any customers and eat tomatoes with ranch dressing... they had a really cool slicer. We also ate cookies straight from the freezer.

One day my manager mentioned being 40 cookies short for the month! LOL, wonder how that happened???

LOL, yes, I have a good one. When we come into Philapdelphia on our planes it is a royal pain the ass. Most all pilots and flight attendants and I am assuming passenger's as well hate Philly airport. We have pulled up to the gate and waited for 30 minutes for someone to come out and unload the plane and clear us to let passengers off. Then there are times when we are going out we can't get anyone to push us back. We pulled up one day and there were three bag guys laying inside one of the baggage carts asleep.

Kaylinn I used to go say I had to use the restroom and take a quick break in the toilet, too, when I worked at an italian restaurant. Heh.

My first job was at a little "family restaurant" about a half-step up from a Denny's. I was 15 and totally overworked; it was summer and I was working nine-hour days six days a week. Then one hot August day the air conditioning went out, and I just said fuck it. Spent the rest of that day sitting in the walk-in refrigerator, wedged between two tall shelves. I took a little nap and nibbled some frozen chocolate, hummed little songs and just relaxed. People would occasionally go in and out but I don't think anyone saw me in there. I'd come out periodically to check on my tables and spent the rest of the time just sitting in the fridge, LOL!

I was the only server at that restaurant that didn't smoke. I got pissed off that I had to stay busy while everyone else got to spend half their shifts in the breakroom smoking. I finally just started getting myself a coke when I wanted a break and flopping down in the breakroom for a few minutes. When the manager asked what I was doing, I told him I was taking a smoke break.

"But you're not smoking," he said.
"Don't care," I shrugged. "Everybody else gets smoke breaks, so I'm taking one too!"

^^ I did that when I waited tables. I would sit down and say "consider this my smoke break" when they walked past.

I had two jobs when I separated from my first husband. I had a job as a cocktail waitress at a popular night club 3-4 nights a week from 8pm-3:30am. My day job was working at a tuxedo rental place as assistant manager from 9:30am-7:00pm 5 days a week. That didn't leave me much time for sleep.

So sometimes, when I was working alone at the tuxedo store, I would make myself a little tuxedo bed on the floor and sleep under the really loud and obnoxious doorbell. In the winter I could get in 3 or 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep!

I was only caught once by another employee coming in through the back door (no doorbell, you needed a key to get in and out). I feigned illness.

    This thread is the funny.

When I worked at this bistro our boss/owner was never around. He left the managing to this cool chic who was about 22 or younger..something like that. So I took so many breaks to get food from the rest of the food court. There was a Barnes and Noble next door (literally) and I would sit inside and read magazines till it got busy. Then at the end of the night instead of throwing perfectly good food away we'd take it home.

Then I moved onto Macys. I worked in the most busiest department; the juniors section. There was clothes everywhere all the time. We had a second section of dressing rooms in which we threw tons of clothes because we didnt have time to put them back. I would go in the back, shut the door and sleep on the giant pile of clothes. I would also hide in the prom dress racks and sit there to get away from people.

Did we work in the same mall??

Ever jump out of the rack of prom dresses to scare people? I could see it now, some bitchy girls are sifting through the dresses, and they push one dress aside and there is TM looking out at them.

    Boo!

LOL I did this at night when I didnt want to put back the endless racks of clothes. I always knew the big sale the next day would ruin it anyways. Oh yea I would try on clothes well past my lunch break. The last days of working there I would take hour and a half lunches. No one said anything.

Deny me my .10 raise will you!? A year and a half I was good then I just started slacking...you no raise giving bastards.

I stole this idea from Matt Groening but it really works: if you have an office job, and want to slack off, just walk around with a pissed off expression, holding a piece of paper. Good for hours of slacking. No one will ask you what you are doing for fear that they might have to end up helping.

wanna hear true evil addict?? I worked at gnc for a year and a half/.... true boredorm/work avoidance? Sat in the back, alone for hrs... bingeing on power bars and reading backdated fitness mags. And Dominoes was on standby. Dancing (and being in public, nude) was a good choice for my bulimia, believe it or not.

I worked in fast food for like 3 days lol...i hated it so much and i would do anything to avoid the window. fake pregnancy, illness, etc. My boss was sleeping with another girl working there and they would always be all sexual around each other it was gross!! they would always sneak off together and leave me alone and i would have to run window to window to ring people up and give them their food. anyway, they went to the freezer together for the last time. i climbed out of the drive through window and ran to my car and took off LOL.

    i HATED that job!!

In my stoner days I worked at a TCBY with a really good friend of mine, and we would smoke out in the walk in freezer and then trade ice cream for pizza with the Pizza Hut across the street. We also screwed on the boss's chair. She was a major bitch and deserved it tho.

    SAME here.

Ok all this talk about being in the freezer has reminded me of something.

My ex bf worked at a bottle shop within a supermarket. There were not many customers so we decided that it was make-out time. So he put the alarm on (so that if customers walked through into the bottle shop from the supermarket the alarm would go off) - well he thought he put it on anyway. So we went inside the freezer and things were getting hot inside the freezer and another staff member walked in!!!

    OOPS.
