Oh yeh Im worried about having a little dog in case a bigger dog hurts it.

When I used to walk my danes other dog owners would shit themselves and pick their dog up. My danes were the most gentle animals too they never would have hurt another dog but the size scared people.

Im gonna turn into one of those little dog owners who picks up their dog LOL.

But then when I get a dane again he or she can protect my little doggie.

Luckyone - I know what u mean. But there is nothing like the bond that develops between you and your dog when the dog matures. Puppies are cute but when they get older and u know each other so well that u can predict their every move and they are so in tune with u - there really is nothing like it.

    I have a pug.

BTW- Not all pugs have breathing/eye problems. Yes, they may be more prone to them. The breathing prob. is relatively common as they have small noses, and most pugs snore softly when sleeping. And when it is hot out, it is harder for them to breathe. I have never met a pug w/ an eye problem however. Pugs make wonderful INDOOR pets. Outside their behavior is a little different, as they can be more rambunctious. Indoors, pugs are wonderful, quiet, loyal, fun, love to be petted. They are very playful, love Everyone, and never bite, occasionally bark. IMO- best dog ever. Pugs should not be kept outside.
My husband and I picked up a baby pug. She was my first pet, and when I bought her she was so tiny. My pug is only 13 lbs. at 2 yrs. She is so tiny and perfect. She is very active and not at all overweight like some pugs I have seen. She actually still looks quite young. She is like a mini pug. I love her. She does shed a bit though. I would highly recommend a pug. Low maintenance, and sure to make you smile.

    oh thanks!

I read on a pug site that a pug will never know a stranger in it's life because they are friendly to everyone.

I think they are terribly cute.

Im glad u said they are quite. I dont like the constant yapper type.

I have a few friends with min pins--LOVELY little dogs. I too have always had big (55lbs or more)dogs, but we just got a chihuahua and I ADORE him. His name is Bob, his pic is my avatar. He can go anywhere with me.
I wish I was a Macaque, living in a hot spring, receiving daily groomings and matings by various males. Aaaaaaaah, one can only dream....

I think pugs are simply adorable!!! I've always wanted one of those or a pekinese, which basically looks like a long-haired version of a pug... but I know you don't like fluffy dogs. I like bulldogs, too...they are so ugly, they're cute.

You might want to consider a shiba inu! Their size is perfect. Small enough for apartment living, but not teeny tiny teacup size. They are very clean, very intelligent, and they don't really bark. Plus, their coat is low-maintenance!

Shibas get along well with other dogs and people, provided that they are socialized properly. They do not exceed 25 lbs in adult males, and females are typically 17-20. They're loyal, quirky, and not to mention GORGEOUS!

    happy puppy shopping!

Shiba inus are beautiful dogs and very intelligent but difficult to train. They think for themselves.

Well this is a no brainer ! ENGLISH BULLDOG!!!! Just kidding LOL

The Shiba are very beautiful dogs, however they are very hyper, and need lots of activity, also as mentioned above are very independent thinkers. I think if I was looing for a smaller size dog I would seriously consider a Schipperke. here is what they look like:

You can find more infor about them here:

Plus I just found this about them on Wikipedia:

The Shiba is a fastidious breed and feels the need to maintain themselves in a clean state. They can often be seen licking their paws and legs much like a cat. They generally go out of their way to keep their coats clean, and while walking will avoid stepping in puddles, mud and dirt. Because of their fastidious nature, the Shiba puppy is easy to housebreak and in many cases will housebreak themselves.
Who'd a thunk it, a CLEAN dog! I'd never even heard if this breed until now, but when I'm ready for a dog, this is what I'm going to look for. The main thing that bugs me about dogs is how filthy they are, so I'm loving the idea of a dog with a cat's fastidiousness! Thanks for the recommendation!

Frenchies have lots of health problems ( french bulldog )

Very cute dog, with a lot of personality and a mind of it's own.

I hope you enjoy your new puppy, whatever breed ( or muttly) that you choose.

I say a pug! They are so cute. I have heard about the eye problems though.

I knew someone with an italian greyhound and she was cute as could be but she broke her legs all the time because they were so skinny.

Of course you could always get a Maltese and keep the hair short and then it wouldn't be fluffy. I'm biased by having one though. I think they are the best dogs ever.

You guys should get your cable provider to pick up . All puppies, all the time.

On television, The Puppy Channel® shows only puppies being puppies, accompanied by relaxing instrumental music. No talk, and virtually no people interrupt the sheer joy of puppies at play and making mischief.

It's ideal "quiet time" entertainment for harried adults, children, and parents seeking quality time with children. At least that's what the Hollywood theater test subjects said. And that's backed up with national research by the leading publisher in the field, as well as on-TV testing.

Some people said they'd leave The Puppy Channel® on all day! Maybe they don't care for talk shows.

You can litter-train schipperkes, too. I met my first schipperke a couple of years ago (K's parents have always had at least one) and fell in love. They're good dogs for cat people. They don't seem as clean as these shiba inus, though! I'm gonna have to consider them both when I'm ready for a dog (but that'll be awhile).

Oh I've been wanting a klee kai for years! They're so precious! A schipperke or a coton de tulear would be great too. I have a papillion/american eskimo mix and I want to get her a little friend.

I'd steer clear of the italian greyhound, they're very very high strung. A friend of mine had to put hers on anti-anxiety meds.

My mom has 2 mini weinies and she loves them. They like to play, but they also just like to lay around. They got along with big dogs well as she also has a rott. They seem to think they're big dogs. They are very headstrong.

I like boston terriers though. They're great dogs. That's my vote.

I have a chihuahau rat terrier mix and she's pretty good. Playful and very cuddly. A little bigger than a chihuahua, but very sweet. They tend to have issues with change though. Not too much moving around.

YES!!!!!!! I am sooooooo glad someone mentioned this!!!! Do you remember the avatar I had a while back?? and.... my thread about my dog who died??

i.e.... the real/original Embyr?? she was a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

Amazing breed. Intelligent as hell, not yappy, great with people, easy to train, loyal and fun, don't require a ton of space/exercise, not hyper, very dignified, "big dog personality" in a smaller breed, every Corgi owner I know LOVES the breed to death!!! .... just ask the Queen of England!!! (ok, hers kinda suck.... but sheesh look how spoiled they are!!!!)

and... they make the CUTEST puppies!!!! not a ton of health problems with this breed, either.

and they have such a great sense of humor... corgis "smile." any breeder will tell you this... hell, just look at the last picture!!!
