    Default Fashion Icons

I was watching the Today Show this morning and they did a segment on fashion icons and their influence today and named the following:

    Madonna
    Betty Paige
    Jackie O
Little Edie (Grey Gardens, Jackie O's cousin)

I strongly agree with Jackie O. and Betty Paige but I'm having a hard time with Madonna, and Little Edie is kinda sorta.

Any thoughts? Who would be on your list?

I think I actually agree with the Madonna one.

I'd add Cyndi Lauper cause she was just such an inspiration for the outrageous.

    Bjork.

Say what you will, the woman does not give a fuck.

For men, George Clooney seems to have made a lot of impact. He has his own distinctive style but I've noticed menswear has done a lot to mimic it in the last several years.

Courtney Love...yep. Hoards of young girls were wearing babydoll dresses, red lipstick and plastic barrettes for years because of that woman.

    Madonna, definitely

    Twiggy

I have to give props to Lil' Kim.

She makes a corset and sneakers look cute:

and if we can include men also, I will definitely say M. Manson and Jonathan Davis had a big influence on young guys for sure.

My ideas of fashion are a little skewed though. I hate mainstream fashion for the most part.

Ooo, I forgot about Gwen! I think Jessica Alba is slowing becoming one. She always looks beautiful, classy, and ladylike. Never ever trashy.

Why can't I think of more?? I love fashion.

ETA: Oh! Oh! Sarah Jessica Parker!! Duh!

Betsey Johnson for me. Shes a little wacky, but i love not knowing what she is gonna wear(or design) next.

I gotta agree with Gwen Stefani. I LOVE her style. I used to really like how Alicia Keys dressed when she first came out. Really bold and classy.

I met her at the airport a few months back in the airline's lounge and she's full-on looking like that all the time. She's really, really sweet though. She told me I had cute shoes!

It sounds cliche, but I see women all over Manhattan who dress really well and definitely have their own thing going, and money doesn't always factor into it.

A lot of celebrities are dressed by stylists now. Even Sarah Jessica Parker didn't become a "fashion icon" until she did Sex and the City, and she was dressed by Patricia Field for that show.

I'd have to pick Kate Moss. Even though her personal life appalls me, and most of what she looks great in few of us could pull off, bitch has it going on with the clothes.
"She has written so well, and marvellously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer...But this girl, who is to my knowledge very unpleasant and we might even say a high-grade bitch, can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers"
