    Exclamation Heeeeeeelp!

I've been taking CLA because I need to tone up and lose some weight. However I have never watched what I eat, always been naturally skinny (you veterans remember), and never exercise. Now my metabolism has slowed down, and my weight is slowly but surely climbing. I know CLA can make you gain weight if you don't eat right and exercise, so I've been trying to. However I work 5 days a week, not sleeping well for some strange reason (back pain maybe), not motivated, eating like crap, etc.

It's like the better I try to eat, the more hungry I get. It's not like I starve myself, but I try to eat "healthier" smaller portions, but end up getting frustrated and start eating constantly! I'm always hungry! I eat breakfast at 6am and by the time I get to work at 8am I am STARVING! WTF??? I get out of control and eat everything then!

Now I'm realizing I have no idea what "healthy" is because I've never had to care until now. I try, but still eating like crap. I also am very broke, so I don't have the budgeted grocery money to spend at a health food store, and the "good" foods all seem more expensive than the crap. I don't know how to shop anymore for healthy eating, much less cheaply!!!

And as far as exercise.... I have never done it before. I have no endurance, lack motivation from getting home from work and being exhausted, and the fucking CLA IS making me fatter because I have no idea how to deal with weight.

What are you eating for breakfast?

Scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast with an apple would be a great breakfast that should keep you full. The protien will help keep you feeling full, and the fiber from the toast and apple will definatly keep your belly feeling full.
Try to eat every 3 hours.
Like, after breakfast your snack in 3 hours, have a piece of fruit and some string cheese.
Then for lunch try a salad and some soup
    Another snack
And then dinner grilled checken with a baked potatoe and some veggies.
Try to get fiber and protien at every meal, that will keep your belly full.
Take veggies with you to snack on whenever you get hungry. Pack an apple and some carrot sticks in a little lunch cooler so everytime you feel hungry you have a healthy snack nearby.

If possible, work out in the monring. That will get your metabolism going for the whole day, and it just sets the tone so you feel positive all day long. I have to work out in the mornings, or else I wont do it.

I eat a bowl of Brown Sugar Mini Wheats and a carton of fat free or less fat yogurt. I also have a glass of water with Citrucel. I hate eggs, I can't get enough grease out of them when they're done up in the pan for my IBS not to act up. I also don't like apples. Just apple juice. Im weird.

Ay. Im going to bed real early and waking up reeeaallly early.

Im whining. I'm just so effing clueless and it's depressing. I feel like a helpless child that never learned how to take care of herself

Pack yoru lunches. Go buy a really cheap cooler( you can even buy a styrofoam one from walmart for 2 bucks if your that desperate, but I got a nice little lunch box with cooler for about $6.)

Pack a sandwhich, yogurt and fruit. Or something.
Anythign you can eat in the car. I used to be a traveling nurse, and did this every day. The lunch you pack in the am will keep in a cooler till lunch time. And pack extra fruit to eat as a snack.

Try to eat a bigger breakfast. The cereal is ok, or oatmeal, and the yogurt is good, add soem fruit. Or even a scoop of protien and some milk. I really like whole grain total. Very healthy, and filling, and pretty tasty.

Def. work out in the am. You dfont goota wake up super early, even if you get in just 15 minutes of activity, your gonna feel good all day, liek you've acomplished something.

Sneak exercise in all day. On deliveries, park further away so you gotta walk a little further to get where yoru going. Take the steps instead of the elevator. In the car, chench yrou butt muscles ad yrou abs, and time yoruself to see hwo long you can clench befor eyou have to stop. Try to beat your time.

On weekends, do fun things for exercise liek washing your car. And have mroe sex. Get on top and ride. GREAT thigh/ab/butt workout, and great cardio.

You can do it hunny. Small changes.

And why are your eggs greasy? I dont get greasy eggs.....

It's funny you mention that, because the absolute ONLY thing that keeps me full for more than a couple hours in the morning is whole wheat toast & a banana. Seriously, I could eat twice as much of something else, like eggs & white bread, but the whole wheat toast & banana really makes the difference.

CF, I'm one of those that feels like I'm starving around 9am if I eat the wrong things, and what Kaylinn suggested really does help.

    Eating good on the cheap:

Get a already cooked rotissery (sp?) chicken. $5-6.
Get some carrots, celery, and cabbage. $4.
    Get some Apples. $2.
Treat: organic extra dark chocolate. $3.

Eat as much as you want, then chop/rip/cut up the rest (yeah, cabbage is yummy raw) and put it in a little cooler in your car. Whenever the urge strikes you, eat. Even if you eat it all in a day, you'll lose weight.

Ugh, at my local grocer, apples are over $1.50 each. It is getting more expensive to eat healthy, (yet another thing to blame on high gas prices?), but it's still cheaper then bad health.

I can never eat eggs first thing in the morning so I usually have them at lunch or as a mid-morning snack.

Eggs don't have to be fried either you could hardboil or poach them without adding any oil at all. I have this egg poaching contraption for the microwave that cooks them in less than a minute. I don't know much about IBS so that may not work for you, but it is just a thought.

NO WONDER YOU'RE HUNGRY!!!! Brown sugar min wheats? Apple juice??? Even yogurt... that is LOADED with sugar that causes blood sugar to spike and fall very quickly. Those foods are processed- which means a machine breaks them down so your body doesn't have to. Its kind of like you're "addicted" to the energy. After you eat you feel great, but once you come down (after an hour or two) you're just as hungry as ever.

You should do some research on the glycemic index.

I eat the same things others suggested to feel full longer: eggs, apples (with peanut butter or cheese) frozen corn and peas mixed with hummus...

Others good foods that will keep you from getting hunger pangs are:
oranges (NOT juice. Citrus fruits suppress your appetite)
beans or peas (high protein, low fat, lots of fiber- AWESOME diet food)
    soup (ie split pea)
    edamame
    Lowfat turkey or tuna

You don't have to eat eggs, but you GOTTA stop doing the sugar mini wheats in the morning- That stuff is Junk!!! Sorry if I sound like nagging mother, but those are NOT healthy foods for you! I'm going to go google the glycemic index and maybe I will add more...

Natural peanut butter isn't much more expensive than regular and has far less sugar and a decent amount of protein. PB sandwiches are cheap!

If you haven't started clipping coupons, start! Yes, it's dorky and feels trashy, but you'll feel trashy with a lot more food for your money.

Buy meats in bulk when they go on sale. That 10-pack of chicken breasts will go a long way.

Oatmeal is excellent for you. It's a low-glycemic carb and full of fiber, and cheap too. You can buy Splenda to sweeten it so you're not loading up on sugar.

PAM is great for cooking eggs without grease overload. All you need to do is spritz the pan for a second and it's fine. Virtually no calories, either, and a can lasts eons.

Pasta is fine in moderation, moderation being a single serving instead of the 2-3 serving plates people normally have. If you mix it with a protein (like chicken or beef or even seafood), you have a very good balanced meal.

Potatoes are also very good in moderation (e.g. one potato a day) and can be spiced up with chives, chopped onion or minced garlic without driving up the calorie count.

Cans of tuna are cheap and tuna is excellent for you*. Buy the 6-oz cans because two 6-oz cans are almost invariably cheaper than two 12-oz cans. (* Note: Try not to have more than 2 cans a week because it can have a high mercury content.)

Cans of soup are excellent hot, filling meals for about 200 calories per serving (usually two servings per can). Watch the sodium intake, but still an excellent choice. I like the Progresso chicken dumpling and New England Clam Chowder a lot.

Basically, what you want to do is keep your meals balanced between carbs and protein, and have at least two servings of fruit or vegetables a day. Things like pasta, bread and potatoes are all right as long as you stick to a reasonable serving size. An overdose of "white" carbs will make your insulin spike and plummet, but also remember that you need some carbs for energy.

Typically speaking, your protein and carbs should be roughly equal per meal. A chicken breast has about 26g protein per 3oz serving, and a medium-sized potato has 26g carbs. Have that and a leafy vegetable and you'll be full without spiking.

You can also do this with:

Two pieces of bread and 3oz deli meat of your choice
Bowl of oatmeal and 1/2 cup cottage cheese
Two scrambled eggs and a glass of milk
1 cup pasta with 3oz lean ground beef in marinara sauce
Chicken caesar salad (watch your dressing intake)
1/2 pound shrimp and 1 cup pasta

And so on and so forth.

Brown rice is nutritious and cheap. So are beans. Mixed together, and with a bit of garlic and curry added, they are delicious. Almond butter packs more of a nutritional punch than peanut butter---smear some on carrot sticks or apple slices. A thermos of green tea will keep your metabolism chugging, and is cheap and full of healthy antioxidants. Buying a whole chicken and roasting it yourself is cheap---you can get a couple of meals out of it, and make soup with the bones just by adding a few veggies and chicken broth. A good breakfast option is a protein shake with a scoop of protein powder, banana, and almond or soy milk. This will keep you feeling full longer and help you avoid the blood sugar crash. You might want to pick up a can of whey protein powder when you have some cash---it lasts a long time, and can keep you going if you don't have time to make a meal. Also, oranges are cheap and very nutritious---vitamin C helps our bodies handle stress better. A tupperware container packed with whole grain crackers, cubes of cheese, hard-boiled eggs, and raw veggie sticks is handy to take on the road, too---you can buy those little insulated lunch bags to keep it cool in your warm car. Don't forget your supplements---B vitamins are very helpful when you are trying to lose weight.

quick and easy new thing i discovered and keeps you full full
its not cheap but lasts a long time .. Kashi has a cereal called Vive
It has all kinds of digestive good things but each cup and 1/2 i think it is has 12 grams fiber i eat a big fat bowl with a pile of berries and soymilk
Its good too.. flakes that are sweet nothing major but then these little twigs that are actually graham crackers and these little white balls which are puffed rice covered in a vanilla yogurt coating .. mmm.. mmmm

Get a couple of these bowls in each day with berries and then you only have to worry about getting in a good salad and some protein the rest of the day

odwalla also has smoothies with fruits and vegetables

i really dont like to cook and have always just been a snacker so cereal with the good milk and berries and the smoothies take care of most of what i need .. except for the fish or chicken .. which i can just throw on a salad or in a wrap

If you have a local ethnic type grocers around you, they usually have a really cheap produce. I do my vegetable shopping at a local Chinese family green grocers and not only do they have extremely cheap produce, but I get access to some exotic greens and fruit I would not otherwise have tried.

If I go to the supermarket across the street, everything is twice as expensive.

^^Flickad, you've intrigued me with this concept before. As soon as I get the right pro-biotic concentration to fix my IBS, I'm going to try it. I can't digest most of what's required just yet, but soon as I can, I want to give it a shot. Inexplicable appetite is always what makes me gain weight...I've been binging and starving since I was a teenager, and I'm fucking sick of it. I just want to get down to a slim but healthy weight once and for all, and maintain it...without torturing myself with yo-yo dieting misery.

Corsica honey, I feel you. It often feels like IBS ruins diets because there are just so many 'healthy' options that are indigestible. I for one cannot digest high (insoluble) fibre foods. Like, I can't even eat an apple or a salad lately without spastic reactions. But a friend got these kicky probiotics from a naturopath who told her medication like birth control is what causes many women's IBS, and she is now a free woman. It completely cured her symptoms, so it's worth a shot if you want to try it (I am going to, as I have said, because in order to eat right, you can't be afraid of food). It is kinda pricey, since you need to get live cultures (the probiotics that you need to refrigerate), but it's hard to put a price on health.

Good luck...i know how hard it all can be.

Really? Shiza, man. I'm looking for anything that would help, but I have this feeling deep down that it's all too good to be true.

The Shangri-La thing does sound great, but I suspect drinking oil (fat) would disrupt the gut. Maybe the sugar water would be ok.
