    Default Snake in the house

As I was on the computer a few minutes ago a three to four foot black snake comes slithering out of a box I have in this room. As I watched it went behind the water heater in the bathroom. The space is only about 2 inches wide now I do not know what to do to get it out. Any suggestions ?

Just leave it. It'll find it's way out.

Trust me, it's going to do it's best to avoid you.

^^^ Yep, what she said. If you really want, you can leave the door open a crack. He probably just wanted to get warm behind your water heater, but he'll quickly figure out there's no food in your house (unless you have mice) and he'll slip out the way he came. He definitely doesn't want to meet you at all.

The problem is I have to go to work soon and the idea of having a snake that could be anywhere when I get home is not very appealing to me. I'm thinking of going to Home Depot to see if they have any non-lethal traps. Don't worry I will not do the sticky trap.

I've never heard of a practical live trap for catching a snake. Don't worry, he won't be anywhere he would be likely to meet you. Check the bed before you get in it, but most likely he'll be right there by the water heater getting warm, or he'll have gone outside to find something to eat.

You should probably look for however he got in though, if you don't want him to live there full-time. Snakes are always on the lookout for a good source of heat and your water heater is probably a great place to be. He could build a nest there if he has easy access in and out.

I went to a neighbors house for a few minutes when I got back my front door and screen door were wide open. I guess I did close it very well. I guess he just crawled that way.

Don't forget, they can get in and out without going through a door/window.
Snakes are notorious escape artists and are likely to get in via spaces around pipes etc.

It's like Yek said, he/she came in to either get warm or more likely followed the scent of a mouse or something.

Thinks if it this way, it was doing you a favor by removing a rodent from your house!
