    Default Depressed Aussie

OK, my neighbors left town for a couple weeks and I volunteered to watch their dog. My German Shepherd died in the fall and this was in part favor and in part test to see if I was up to another dog yet. He's a Minature Australian Shepherd (Aussie). (not Aussiepunkshocker or Goldcoastgirl, though they're welcome anytime) Usually dogs and small children react very well to me. It's all the charm I have. I've had German Shepherds, Huskies, and assorted mongrels, but this is my first time with an Aussie. He's perfectly quiet all night. Then, if I get him out in the morning, he finds a remote spot in the yard and doesn't move for hours. ( He's only about 2 years old (American, I'm not sure what he is in Australian years) )Today, he hasn't left the crate in my bedroom for about 7 hours, except to eat and head back in. I'm not used to such a withdrawn dog. Cat, maybe, but not dog. I know they tend to attach to their people, and distrust strangers, but I'm a little worried. Thoughts? Anyone? Anyone?

Just as Australians (Or, perhaps Aussies). You know I recognize your primate heritage!

maybe you can call your neighbors and see if this is all just his normal behaviour?

or maybe he just misses his owners? maybe hearing them on the phone will cheer him up too.

My timber wolf was not far off from that behavior if I was not around. Just make sure he eats. Looks like the dog is missing home, something more familiar may make him happy. My wolf loved this camouflage t-shirt of mine, and was always happy to have it on, especially when I was gone.
I've come a long way since I believed in anything, and I've come half way around the world.

Where you come from is gone.
Where you thought you were going to was never there,
and where you are, ain't no good unless you can get away from it.

yea, definitely missing the owners. when i went away to VT in Dec., Emily watched my two. apparently the first night she was very depressed, and even into the second day, but by the end of the 5 days, she was normal again. and i have a dog with a lot of abandonment issues. although, im sure having my other dog right there with her made her feel better, and im sure she was distracted by Em's two dogs.. however im sure this one will be fine, jsut give it tons of positive attn when you can.

    and whoa.. cherry ripe boy!
