Hypospadias
My friend's baby boy was born with a congenital defect called Hypospadias. I had never heard of it before. Has anyone had a child with this?
They have to wait until he is a bit older to fix it. He might require 3 separate operations.
I found the following info on a website:
Hypospadias
Hypospadias is a birth defect of the penis that commonly has four characteristics:
* The urethral opening is located on the underside of the penis, instead of the tip, and may exit the penis anywhere along its shaft as high as the scrotum.
* The urethral opening is unusually narrow.
* The entire foreskin may be bunched on the topside of the penis.
* The penis itself may be curved to one side.
Hypospadias is one of the most common birth defects in Victoria, occurring in around one in 300 births.
He has all four characteristics listed above.
I feel really bad for my friend she is really distressed that he will not have a normal life because of this.

Re: Hypospadias
My midwife friend said he really should be ok. She said its quite common and the surgery is amazing. Obviously she hasnt seen this case, but I thought you might at least find what she said reassuring.

Re: Hypospadias
^^
Thank-you I will tell my friend. She has done a lot of researching but it's always more reasurring (IMO) to hear from people who have been through it.
I felt so bad for her as she was really distressed that he would be teased or not liked by girls (later in life obviously) because of it.
The doctors have told her that when he is a toddler they will see if he can urinate in a line, if he can then he will only need the operation for cosmetic reasons.
The shitty thing is that because it's congenital he will not be covered under their family health insurance so they will have to go public and pay for it themselves.
I also did some reading and there is no known cause for it.
I initially thought that maybe it was caused (or contributed to) from her drinking and smoking while pregnant. But it seems to be quite a common condition.

Re: Hypospadias
I had heard that consuming large amounts of soy during pregnancy could be a problem associated with it.
It's more common than one might think. It can be corrected if it is a problem. I know a guy with it. He has no problem with women. He just explains that nature missed the mark but the works are fine. He's getting married soon and has a little boy who does not have the condition.

Re: Hypospadias
Whoa hey there's a name for this?!
Man so that hooker wasn't lying about that guy's dick? She said it wasn't a problem masturbating him, just different, but that sex was still the same... so...uh.... he can live with it?

Re: Hypospadias
It's like a cleft palate; it's the same basic type of disorder, about as common and very fixable.

Re: Hypospadias
He can live with it. Unless it's pretty severe, many doctors won't recommend surgery unless pressed for it. He'll still run, jump, terrorize the cat, and knock things over like any other little boy. Depending on where the opening is, he may have to learn how to pee differently than other boys. That's about it.
