Default songs (continued from Customer Conversation)

I did a search but didn't find anything, so if this has been answered sorry.

    To the Dancers,
The songs you choose, do you choose them based on what you like yourselves? What you think the customers would like? or even just something you think is sexy.?

For me, it depends on the day. I choose my own music, but when I worked in a club with a dj, he would go with the genre I liked, but pick what the custies would enjoy.

I pick what the customers like if I know they're good tippers (I work in a regulars bar) or if someone politely requests something that I don't hate. I play what I like otherwise. And, occasionally, I play utter and total shit in an attempt to get douchebags to leave...rocky horror picture show anyone?

Depends. I like a lot of stuff ..so I'll pick what I like but try to match it to the crowd.
So ...younger rowdy party crowd ..I'll play manson or kid rock type stuff
older crowd: ac/dc or skynard type

Sometimes I will take requests from REALLY good custies(the kid that spent a crapload on me last night liked country...so I agreed to dance to Save a horse, ride a cowboy for him...not something I'd normally dance to..but this kid was really sweet and spent a LOT on me so he deserved it )

i always pick my own music. i have pretty eclectic taste, so i can usually find something that i like that i also think a customer i'm targeting will like as well. i will often pick songs that i know regulars of mine will enjoy.

but sometimes i will just dance to something i'm really in the mood to dance to. usually some obscure indie rock that no one in the club knows. i Hate dancing to the same stuff every other girl dances to.

For me it's 50/50. Sometimes, I ask the DJ for something that will make me happy, other times
I specify a genre or artist and let the DJ use his DJ ninja skills to read the crowd and pick something that will make the crowd happy.

I play classic rock for an older crowd, even though I kind of feel like its played out (b/c I hear it so much).

I don't try to pick "sexy" songs. Just stuff with a good beat, or angry thrashy (is that even a word?) hard rock.

It's not that big a deal to me. A good dancer can dance to (almost) anything.

Okay this is the bane of my working existence.

I have to dance during table sets and private dances to whatever is playing. We have NO DJ and just a stupid computer that randomly plays whatever, resulting in certain songs being repeated several times throughout the shift.

OK, I'm old...Old enough to remember that at my first regular club the dancers handed the DJ their own mix cassettes to play for their sets. My first ever ATF was a smart lady. She would look out into the room before her set to determine what the crowd demographic was and choose her set tape accordingly.
This was in the early 80's so rap was not a factor yet but she had tapes with oldies, hard rock, pop, disco and even Jazz (ever see a girl dance to Miles Davis?!). The age group of the guys, the day of the week, the time of day and what the other girls were playing helped determine what she would play.
The music meant a lot to her and it really effected her money as the right choices would put the crowd in the right frame of mind. To this day, over 20 years later I still think of her when I hear the Cars "Let's Go" or Triumph's "Magic Power"....like I said, I'm old...

Yeah, when I played it for them, lol--but it has to be the right moment, it has to be for a dancer who can pull it off (not Lola, the 53 year old Asian hooker, for instance) you have to pick the right track, and you have to cue it up very carefully. There have been about 4-5 out of roughly 2,000 dancers I have played it for.

At the club I work at, whatever money I make on stage is just bonus any way. To top that off, you're usually on stage with another girl or another two girls so..... I dance to what I like (hard rock or hard house or electronica) and I don't really care if the guys like it or not.

    Damn, I was already impressed...

Oh, sorry, Lucky One--it's quite simple. You see customers behaving the way you like them to, you play music they like. The converse is also quite effective. Then sometimes you get an intuitive feeling what needs to be played, along the same lines only diverging a bit.

And if you are on it, you can have the crowd in the palm of your hand--or rather the dancers palms and garters get filled with money, lol. It's by no means foolproof or always a sure thing, but when it clicks, you are manipulating the crowd.

This does not ncessarily mean you aren't trying to make them happy--that's the whole point, actually--unless they are scumbags. You want a crowd that is loving the club and the dancers, the mood and the music. You want them to stay, and you want them to return.

If I like a dancer, I'll learn about her music and think about what else she might like, maybe from a different period. It started when I met a dancer who loved Abba's Dancing Queen, and I happened to know the origin of the song. She said "that is sooo beautiful" and started crying.

This should be printed and posted in every DJ booth, Managers office and Dressing room in every strip club in America. It's a basic business principal that, for some reason, many people associated with the strip club industry feel does not apply. Make the customer happy, make them want to come back....Wow, what a freekin' concept!

I saw an Asian (not 53 and not a hooker) dance to opera once...
She had forgotten that it was on the CD she gave the DJ but there it was right between Knockin' on Heaven's Door and some other song I can't remember. She looked at me and laughed, then kept dancing...not sure what the crowd thought but I bought ten dances....OK, it had nothing to do with the opera...

Dj, if I come to your club can you introduce me to Lola?

Good god, man--you don't want to meet Lola! Unless you like the lowest form of comedy, that is.

Besides, she doesn't work at my present club (for which fact I am eternally grateful), but in the last club I worked in, in Daytona--'the circus'.

I wrote much concerning Lola back then, I'm not sure if a search for "Lola, the 53 year old Asian hooker" would turn it up or not, but there's a brief bit written recently about her in this thread, roughly 2/3rds down:

    http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=90970

Never tried opera, lol--but I have played a 20 second clip of Mozart on occasion, to demonstrate the versatility of the reigning 'Booty Shaking Queen'. Except the current title holder, that is, who only dances to Reggaeton. Usually, to qualify, they must demonstrate an ability to shake the booty to whatever music is played, but Donna is so good I let that slide.

That is tempting, and you are sweet to suggest it (and thanks to you as well, georgiapeach), but I am making a lot of money where I am right now, and there's a big expansion coming very soon--I can't go anywhere for a while.

I know damned well I would love to work with you both, though! Maybe someday...
