Default My secret to weight loss...

is legumes. High Protein, low fat, high fiber. They stabilize your blood sugar and keeps you from getting hungry.

Anyway, for months now I've been trying to figure out an easy way to make my own hummus because I eat a ton of hummus. Chick peas are dirt cheap and I don't even like the kind at the store that much. I started out in the kitchen with a potato masher. Then I tried using a blender. A couple days ago I went out and got a food processor, and today- TODAY I FINALLY MADE A DISCOVERY. You have to put water in with the chick peas or its too thick. And if you dump the whole can of chick peas into the blender INCLUDING the water then the whole parts don't get stuck along the side and it keeps mixing the big peices into the blades so they get chopped up into mush the way they're supposed to....

How was I so stupid for so long not to figure this out sooner??? And then after you dump the whole can into the blender, including the water, you mix in lemon juice and olive oil.

My other bean that makes a good snack for me is edamame (you know, the soybeans they give you as an appetizer at a sushi restaurant.)

Anyway, if anybody else has any great legume-snacks I would love to hear...

Not hummus- but antacids do for some reason. I only take them when my tummy is upset because I read that advil is HORRIBLE for ulcers...

The key to making non-gas producing beans is to soak them slowly, over about 24 hours. You gently mix the beans around while they're soaking. After the soaking time, you dump the water (you can dump it into your garden...your plants will love it) and fill the pot with fresh water. Then you slowly cook it until done (simmer the entire time).

Doing this will effectively remove the gas producing effects.

    Happy eating!
BTW- thanks for the tip VenusGoddess!!!

it's not really the time of year for it, but in the colder months, I pretty much eat lentil soup every day. I slow cook it with onion, garlic, celery, broth and water. It's very filling....but I don't seem to lose weight with it. maybe I should eat more!
