Default high protein, low carb, 10 meals daily

Well, I spent a while talking to one of the hottest men I have ever seen a the gym earlier in the evening. He seems to know a lot about supplements and fitness and he does own the gym. So, I was asking him about Tonalin CLA and how to tone my body up and if it would help me in his opinion. He informed me that it wouldn't help, the only supplement that would help is Ephedra because it burns fat. Of course, it's unhealthy and illegal so he was informing me of ways I could eliminate fat and build muscle. His theory is that if you cut all carbs down to hardly nothing and consume mostly protein and eat 10 times a day that this will build muscle and reduce fat. Of course, it's not easy to consume 10 meals a day for most of us and he explained he advised a lot of people to do protein shakes for half of the meals. He claims he does this 6 days a week and on the 7th day eats as he pleases. What do you guys think about this idea and how many have tried this?

Tonalin CLA... how much do you need to take, mg wise?

And is Ephedra illegal everywhere, or just here in the states?

Cuz if I need to go on vacation somewhere to get it...heh...lemme know!

The idea sounds good. Small meals, high protein. I actually purchased some protein powder a few days ago and...it's hard to get down.

Would this work, say if I wanted to try it???

    90 mins of cardio 3x a week & 30 mins of weights 4x a week for exercise

    food:
    Turkey sausage - 2pm

    scrambled egg+scrambled egg white/cheddar cheese -3pm

chicken breast seasoned, grilled n wrapped in lettuce - 4pm

    protein shake - 6 pm

all white meat turkey burger, tomato slices, spinach - 8pm

    protein shake - 10 pm

    mozzarella string cheese - 11pm

grilled chicken tenders and salsa - 1am

10 boiled egg whites with hot sauce on them - 3am

protein shake before bed - 6am

^^^that seems like a whole lot of eating

do you think i should try it?

are you gonna try it, too?

cuz i would love to know how it works.

can you do this long term...or is it like ketosis and not good to do long term? ( i just got that atkins book today... been reading up on ketosis and stuff )

"Cutting all carbs down to almost nothing" is not healthy at all. That sounds like a recipe for constipation, depression, irritability, and exhaustion. Your brain needs carbohydrates to function, and they typically come with fiber, which your digestive tract needs. So yeah, you MIGHT build muscle, but is it really worth it?

I find I'm much calmer when I eat carbs, and stringy and tense when I don't, probably because carbs release dopamine in the brain. If I haven't had any for a while, and then eat some cake or sandwiches, I feel like I've had a sedative. Move over valium, here comes sponge cake from Safeway.

You'll need a colonic eventually if you ate all of that.

You can probably get by on 4 to 5 small meals a day. Your first meal (after doing like 30 mins cardio) could be something like hot 7 grain cereal, vanilla protein powder and a little natural peanut butter, the other meals would be lean protein and veggies. Eat lots of veggies! Drink lots of water.

I used to eat like this but now I'm vegan and mostly raw/live (not for everyone but I like it).

    Oh and I'm a trainer.

I dunno about dopamine, but carbs do release seratonin. When you cut out carbs, your brain stops manufacturing seratonin, which results in a serious drop in your mood. I tried the South Beach Diet once and within a week I was such a shrieking harpy I didn't recognize myself. I was MISERABLE and everything irritated the shit out of me and I was snapping at everyone. When K asked me what I wanted for dinner and I screamed at him, he took charge and decreed that my dinner would be nachos and margaritas. The next morning he served me whole wheat rolls, and by the time I was done with breakfast I was fine!

Oh, and to the OP... keep in mind he's a man. Their bodies are designed differently from ours; they're made to build muscle, while we're made to store fat, and our metabolisms work very differently. What works for a man will not necessarily work for you. Ten meals a day sounds like an awful lot for a woman, especially one as small as you are.

Actually, I stopped taking Tonalin a month ago and I haven't noticed any changes. His advice sounds like the atkins diet... it would help you lose weight but it is definately not something to do long term. Of all the body builder dudes I've known... They've all been a little crazy about their diet.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

Heh, I didn't bother to look it up again and suspected I was getting my brain chemicals confused!

the carb thing is very individual-dependent. common wisdom is that you need a fair amount of carbs, like a third of your diet, but many people sicken on diets containing even moderate amounts of carbs. it really depends on your body's specific needs, which might match up with current accepted dietary theories and which may not. still, that guy is kinda confused about how it works. you lose fat down to your maintenance weight and then start attempting to build muscle from there.

and ephedra will toast out your adrenals if it is used for more than a few weeks regularly. nobody ever mentions that when talking about how supar it is. it will stop working as a stimulant and you will also have adrenal exhaustion. also, if you take a break from it and use it again months later, it will never quite have the same effects. it is something best used temporarily and infrequently.
