    Default Big Ticket Purchases

Has anyone ever bought a big ticket item over the internet? I've been shopping around for LCD HDTV's and was just checking out Overstock and Amazon which are a lot cheaper than going to Best Buy or PC Richards. Now I'm all for saving $$ but what about things like tech support and customer service when you buy big ticket over the internet?

check out tigerdirect for lcd's also. Sometimes their prices are untouchable

If you buy from a good reputable company they most often will treat you well.

I look at their shipping rates/processing time. Also their return policies and the ease of that if there was a problem.

Purchases thru Amazon should be secure.
Security concerns extend to your own computer. The following is a link to site that will test the open ports on your own PC. The tests are under the Shields Up page.

    The link is https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

I suggest that you give the site a quick read. If you are feeling the geekiness vibe then navigate to Twit.com and listen to any of the Security Now episodes. The host is Leo Laporte the guest speaker is Steve Gibson.

And if you are super, super geeky *trumpet blare* the try out Blink from eEye. Blink is a different approach to computer security that uses far less resource than traditional bloated anti virus solutions. Blink is especially kind the lower powered PC's. Be aware that you will need to uninstall the antivirus presently on your PC. And there is a small learning curve with Blink.
And for those of you running without anti intrusion software Blink is still be provided free of charge. What a great freebie.

Now where did I put my wine glass.
