Default The BLUE SCREEN of DEATH!!!!

I just survived it. I guess there's something amiss with my hard drive. I went to turn my computer on and.................nothing but an obnoxious blue screen! Has anybody else come down with this malady?!!!! Do I really have to replace the hardware?!!!!! To the tune of $450!!!

Write down the code you get on the BSOD; those hex characters mean something.

    Post the code error here.

Wait for Mast or myself to respond with a fix.

    Save money.

Allot of times it will tell you which file is corrupted. If the file is something you don't need you can delete it. I would suggest finding a computer forum or pasting it on here for someone to fix it for ya.

Yes you must post this vile code of blue death!

We must know if it says things like Unmountable boot volume, or if it just says 0x032 or something.

^^^^^^^^^^^^YEAH it was a 0x0000006 and c0000145 something like that! It said it couldn't launch because of that. I had to pay $40 for the tech to tell me how to reset the system to the day I bought it. Meaning my SWfest pics, Vegas pics, best porn etc () was all lost! Ten minutes later it crashed again and I had to reinstall the xps. So far so good. I thought it was funny when I saw the BLUE SCREEN of DEATH on tv shows but I'm not laughin' NOW!!!

He should have had you run a CHKDSK first, which would have repaired disk corruption (most disk-based BSODs can be fixed this way, unless your drive has outright died), but Dell technicians are too stupid and scripted to tell you to do anything other than reload the OS. Goddamn, I can't stand weak ass support people.

Sad but true. Ironically when you buy a computer the worst thing you can do most times is use their tech support.

One of my classes in college for simulation languages put it best. There are usually only 5 out of 100 or so of tech support people that actually know what they are doing. The rest definitely read from the script.

Sorry, but in all probability you could have kept that data.

When you call Tier 1 OEMs, their tech support mantra is, "When in doubt, reload the OS," which is retarded.

Even re-installing the OS should NOT have deleted any pics or porn you had on your harddrive.. unless you had it reformat the harddrive during the install..

Well, how do I find it all? It says all my files are empty.

If Dell had her run the destructive system restore, that stuff is (sort of) gone. She might be able to get it back using a tool like Stellar Phoenix, but it's expensive and you have to know what you're doing with it. I've used it to recover data from fully formatted drives with very good success.

If you really need that stuff back, Optimist, PM me and we'll figure out a way for you to get your drive to me and back.

And backup your data in the future. Many people have to learn the value of this the hardway once in life; hopefully the lesson has been learned.

I know, I know.....even my Mom is SHOCKED I didn't back up my files. None of it was super important, just sentimental.

CO, a lot of companies have moved support techs over seas just so they will not deviate from the script. Still many that can not are employed as well. An associate has a few examples from Visioneer/Xerox that are particularly funny.

I agree with CO that Data did not have to be lost.

Be thankful you did not pay Geek Squad $300 for the same thing! Well they would have tried to save your data as well.

I have a rule, if I copy photos off of my camera I burn a disk of them.

There has to be a list somewhere of what to do when your computer BSODS.

It always sucks when computers do this!!

I ran a diagnostics test last night. I got to IDE Disk S/N=MPC30043GOBWAA and then error code 0F00-0244 Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected kept popping up. The scan checked all the blocks and smatterings of blocks were affected.

I cannot determine if your hard drive has been replaced but I'll offer up this suggestion anyway.

There is a widely respected data recovery program called Spinrite. Spinrite is a data recovery and hard drive maintenance program. It costs $90.00.

It is a very small program that creates a bootable diskette or CD which you then use to boot your machine. It works with hard drives at the lowest possible level and is the shining star of a genius assembly language programmer by the name of Steve Gibson.

Once your PC is booted off the diskette or CD you simply designate whether it is maintenance or recovery and Spinrite does the rest.

    Its that easy.

Here is a link and good luck:
