Default Don't try this at home, pt.2

    My new (temporary) pole...

Don't worry, it's straight, that's just the camera angle.

Don't worry, it's securely tied, I just tossed the rest of the (very long) rope up there to get it out of the way and keep it from hanging down.

Don't worry, it's steel so it won't break when I do tricks--though it is slippery as hell. Not stainless steel--it's actually electrical conduit tubing, lol!

I have played on it a bit, but have been fairly cautious since it's not anchored very well at the base. The handspring variant works fine, even if the ceiling height makes it tricky to do the rest, so far.

Well what they say about using a tricky material for a pole is true--at first I felt like a beginner the fucking thing is so slick--worse than stainless steel. It's one thing to do a trick on a street sign when you are psyched and buzzed and everything feels right, but to use one at home is different, lol...

But I can feel my grip and skill increasing--I think it a lot just not being afraid. And though I haven't tried the poles at work since I got it (usually I'm too burned out to play at the end of the night, I just want my gigantic glass of wine and outta there), I have a feeling that going back to brass after this thing will be fun!

The pole seems amazingly stable considering the half-assed way its mounted. But it's not going anywhere, and it's not breaking. It might not be quite as steady as one that's bolted tight, but in a way I like that too.

Haven't done the full-blown trick yet, but by standing on the arm of the couch I can get high enough, and start to extend my leg out onto the ceiling.

I might try to put the camera on a timer and prop it up, and at least get a still or two--but I don't have a video camera yet.

The pole is only 10', which is probably about average for a club, though most clubs I have worked in have been shorter, and I have seen many clubs with taller.

The ceiling is about 14' high at the peak.

It's funny, I never realized how dependent on ceiling height the special trick I do is, which calls for further development I think. I mean, I can easily make a stage or get a secure jumping off point and make it the way I need it as far as height goes, but I'd rather not need it.

height makes a big difference for me. my legs are long and until i got into my new studio (almost 11 1/2 feet tall!), i was limited on some tricks cause i would hit the ceiling. now i don't have that problem...but i have a whole new set of bruises to show for it all! lolol
