    Default Immune Boosters

I always seem to catch stuff are there any immune boosters out there I can take? I am about to have my two year old in daycare soon & you know they bring everything home from there. I was wondering what would be safe to give her to boost her also? Thanks!

The best way to prevent getting sick is to wash your hands. Teach your child to keep her hands clean also.

You can always take a multivitamin, vitamin c is said to help, but keeping your hands clean and refraining from touching your face with dirty hands, and of course staying away from sickies this is the best way for you to stay well.

500-1000 mg of vitamin C twice a day helps me alot especially when I feel a cold coming on. You can have your child wash their hands right when they come home. Keep their toys clean too.

I can't say enough about the benefits of taking L-Lysine. I've been taking it for years. Tonalin CLA also has an immune system boosting effect (might go hand in hand with the extra exercise people do while using it.)

I also felt much better when I went out of my way to drink filtered water (a Brita pitcher is an affordable way to do it) and reduce toxins in my environment.

Lastly, most people hate the smell of garlic and onions, but they are immune system boosters & go well with many different styles of cooking.

Vitamin C in large doses. I havent had a cold or flu or anything for more than 24 hours in almost 16 years now since I discovered the benefits of taking vitamin C mega doses. If you search the forums you should see other threads on this. I have posted the details a few times already (-:

Oh yes, its safe for children also. I used to give my son a gram per day per year of life as recomended by Orthomolecular Doctors.

Here is an immune booster soup that I think works wonders.

    Immune Soup

    8 cups water
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    1 small onion
    1 bulb garlic
one 1 1/2 inch piece of fresh gingerroot - grated
1 1/2 cups salted veggie powder or stock
    5 pieces sliced astragalus root
2 cups freshsliced shiitake mushrooms ( or 1 cup dried)
    1 large reishi mushroom
    Cayenne powder to taste

Bring water to a boil in a large pot.
Heat olive oil, saute'garlic, onions and ginger in a pan until soft and aromatic.
Add contents of pan to water then add veggie powder, shiitake, astragulus and reishi.
    Simmer covered for two hours.

Remove from heat and let cool for two hours.

Then remove astragulus and reishi and reheat.

    Add cayenne to taste.
