Default immigration reform bill 1348-- please read...

immigration reform bill 1348 goes up for a cloture vote in about 2 weeks. this is basically a list of resources regarding this bill. this bill is cleverly framed as an enforcement bill, but it's just a straight amnesty for illegal immigrants specifically, and no others, with an added bonus of indentured servitude terms.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:s.01348: this is where the entire 411 pages can be found, or a summary of the bill.

http://sessions.senate.gov/pressapp/....cfm?id=275456: amazingly, this is a senator having gone through the entire bill and pointed out 20 extremely bad loopholes with it. basically, this bill penalizes anyone who DOES NOT overstay their visa or come into the country illegally, because if you do those things (overstay or just enter illegally), you can get a probationary status that gives benefits better than citizenship, and much more swiftly. there are also other loopholes that even more problematic.

the key thing here is that cloture= no filibuster opportunities. and the way that senators who want this bill to pass are playing is that they are telling other senators "vote for cloture, and then you can vote against the bill, and tell your voters you were against it!" this is dirty pool, because voting for cloture is likely to push the bill through. and your senators are certainly not going to tell you that come election time. any senator who votes FOR cloture needs to be dropkicked out of office come election time, no matter what they say about how they voted against the actual bill itself.

this bill is not pro-citizens or pro-citizenship for that matter. and if it cannot be got rid of through popular discontent, people need to know that they should be voting against anyone who lies to them when election time rolls around.

i'll be voting against any of my senators and reps who voted for cloture and against the bill (and of course against any supporting the bill), and i really hope the word gets out that everyone should do so when they vote. not just congresspeople-- penalize everyone down the tree branch. and then tell them why you did it. politicians follow the trail of votes and if enough people make them suffer for this bill, they might start thinking about those of us who aren't making a million dollars a year and paying 10 percent tax.
