i used to dream militant dreams / of taking over america / to show these white folks how it should be done
i used to dream radical dreams / of blowing everyone away / with my perceptive powers of correct analysis
i even used to think / id be the one to stop the riot and negotiate the peace / then i awoke and dug
that if i dreamed natural dreams / of being a natural woman
doing what a woman does / when shes natural
i would have a revolution

I think a better approach would've been: "Wow, you have a very intersting look. What's your ethnic make up?" Then I could undertand.
My race is Black. My ethnic background is a hodgepodge like most Americans.
I think that is better than implying that I can't be black or that if I am there's gotta be something else in there.

ahmeerah:
It can be difficult when you're Black and Beautiful--and Baffling (to some people). Some memorable and typically "innocent" questions/remarks I've heard from total strangers include:
1. Are you a half-breed?
2. Why are your lips so big?
3. Are those contact lenses?
4. I've never seen an albino before! Aren't YOU one?
5. No way, you're not Black! (My personal favorite because I've heard it from
the entire fuckin' Uhited Nations, including "my people")![]()
What I've developed during a lifetime of such encounters (positive as well as negative interactions) in different places is a wicked sense of humor, a sense of self and an outlook that embraces my miscegenation unapologetically...![]()

Nah, I'm just baffling to ignorant folks.

Okay, I'm gonna be that dweeb who posts what they consider to be a profound quote from the vast Internet pool of such cyberpearls...
"Society is one vast conspiracy for carving one into the kind of statue it likes, and then placing it in the most convenient niche it has."
