    Post Construction workers in here?

Anyone here work as a construction worker? How hard was it to get into? Hows Salary? benefits? What are some other "decent paying" government jobs out there that are attainable, as in not requiring a Harvard degree or being a certified genius. (You know the kind that a "regular/capable" person can get into) My original plan is still to be a Registered Nurse but im keeping my options open.
Thanks in advance for any help.

My fiance is a contractor. He mostly does concrete work. His guys, with no experience, start out around 9 bucks an hour. The more experience, the more they get paid. He doesn't offer benefits, but it's a small company. Also, keep in mind alot of construction companies lay their guys off during the winter.

Data entry for the post office is 'decent paying' to me, though I don't know what your definition is. Though you're stuck staring at a computer screen for hours at a time.
I believe you Dottie and you have my support

My hubby is a NJ 825 operating engineer. Good pay, benefits, anunity, pension. 15C in NYC makes $30+ per hr with $7.00 per hr going in anunity. That rocks.

It's tough getting into a union unless you know someone. They very rarely open enrollment.

I would stick with the nurse thing I have done construction for while and it will wear you down . But yes the union deal is good , and crane operators make some serious bank but your nerves will be shot after a few years .
