    Default Unique Newbie Question...

Ok I highly doubt this question has been asked before:

How would a scar keep me from getting a job?

See - I had heart surgery about 5 years ago and the scar runs between my breasts from where most bras start up to about an inch below my collar bone.

Aside from this - I've been thinking of getting into dancing for awhile. I have a good attitude, can move and not too bad a bod if I do say so myself. The other day however - I realized that I hadn't taken into account my scar.

    So any thoughts?

    Thanx in advance!

It has been asked before, but that's okay

I would say that except in a very few upscale clubs, a scar would not prevent you from getting a job. Scars can be very sexy, and it gives you a story to tell. If you want, you can use dermablend or any other body makeup to cover it up, but if you've got a great body, I'd bet that most guys won't notice.

    Good luck!

    haha sorry!

I've only met olllllldddddd men that have had surgery like that as well

Covering it up isn't an option because of how it was cut - it would still show.

    gracias!

i have a few friends with similar scars (both had open heart surgery, one when she was two years old, and one when she was 11)...they're both absolutely gorgeous, and the scars really work on them - it's like the contrast between how pretty they are and how blatant the scar is emphasizes their looks...

one of them does wear a long lecklace to cover it up if she's feeling particularly self conscious about it though...a little distraction goes a logn way

We have a girl in the club with a scar like that. I have heard customers say, "I really want to ask that girl how she got that scar!"

At my club, tattoos aren't allowed and all of the girls use the dermablend stuff to cover up; I don't have any tattoos but from what I've heard (and can see) it works really well.

I know you're concerned about a scar-not a tattoo-but I wouldn't discount the dermablend yet (unless you've already tried it.) If that does not work for you, consider creating an outfit which would camoflauge it such as a necklace or a tie (very Demi Moore-ish".)

Or, as several of the other posters have suggested, play it up! Come up with an incredible story which makes you a heroine or something.

Lots of luck to you in your new job!

Oh it's not that I doubt the product. It's more of the fact that it's a raised scar.

And I got over the whole "I MUST cover my ugliness" phobia a long time ago. So many people have such random questions about it though. I even once had a guy ask if I was attacked by a dog!

It is interesting to hear of other people that had open heart as well though. Seriously - everyone ... EVERYONE is always so shocked going "you were so young!" haha.

This was more of a question of how it would affect work, both getting the job and actually working than me feeling self conscious. At my current job - everyone thinks I'm odd because I don't mind people looking at my chest. I just say I'm used to it

I agree with the above--it could be a good conversation starter. As long as you're not too insecure about it, show it off!

Customers seem to like girls who are a little different than the others. If the scar is just raised and not very differently-colored they might not even be able to see it when you're on stage, and only when you're up close. Who knows?

Dude it would rock... If I had that scar I'd make up the most bullshit stories.

Dude I was attacked by a shark! It got half of me before I punched it in the eye with my free hand!

That's my autopsy scar. I woke up before they finished.

I had major heart surgery because it broke when my boyfriend left me and now I'm dancing to pay the bills. *puppy eyes*

Holy crap, that scar is a goldmine!

Most guys won't care but some will find it a turn off. I am a guy who had open-heart surgery 5 yrs. ago that left a nasty scar ( which has now faded away for the most part ) . Unless I button my shirt to the top, the scar remains visible. Now I know the shoe is on the other foot but most dancers were fascinated by it, even while it was still just a few weeks old. Others would ask me to button up another button or they would nervously do it for me. One is still afraid to listen to my artificial valve tick away, yet she is probably the one I am friendliest with of the bunch. My advice to you is to give a shot and see what happens. Worst-case scenario is you wasted a couple of nights giving it a shot.

^ I found the best way to shut people up is to be totally sarcastic but sound totally serious. It's really fun to see who believes you, too. (And I totally wrote the third one before I realized you did have major heart surgery.. oopsie)

I've worked with two girls with similar scars. Never seemed to affect their earnings. Although Im sure they got sick of guys asking about it and trying to touch it...but they both did quite well. It was a conversation starter if nothing else!

What's kind of ironic is that I used to be completely sarcastic and even synical (sp?) all the time and was quite known for it!

However - now that I think about it, I'm not really anymore. I think it has something to do with being in retail and striving to do well in that job - with little pay off I might add. 'eh whatever!

The heart surgery one is cute but I think I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face for that one. The autopsy - could totally pull that off

The touching thing I'm used to - people either stare or touch. And then they act like they are soooo sorry for being so nosey. Cracks me up every time!

Of course - it didn't in 8th grade...

I once noticed that a dancer had a scar that ran down her entire body from her neck to below her navel. But I only noticed the scar after admiring other parts of her body. I don't think the scar detracted from her at all, and I am sure that yours will be an asset as mentioned above.

I had surgery when I was only 3 days old. I know this is kinda gross, but my intestines were in a knot when I was born. I couldn't have a bowel movement. They had to do surgery to "fix my plumbing". So I have this 3" long scar on the right hand side of my abdomen, about 2" above my belly button. I use to be very self conscious about it when I first started dancing, so I wore a waist cincher all the time. But after awhile, I got sick of wearing the damn thing all the time and said Fuck It! I was really surprised...if people did notice my scar, they weren't saying anything for the most part. When I'm up on stage and guys come up to tip, I can see them look at my scar, but most don't say shit. I've had a couple of dancers tell me that when I'm up on stage, that from a distance you can't tell it's a scar, it likes like my stomach is just really ripped...hey that works for me . Though one time I did have this guy come up to tip me on stage...he was like What the fuck is that?....I told him that I was stabbed...he didn't say anymore But really...fuck it, you shouldn't have any problems with making money.

Hopefully customers won't want to ask because they're afraid to upset you. Otherwise you'll be explaining it 15x per night. One of my good friends who dances with me has two large scars on her back from operations to fix her spine's curvature. Guys sometimes ask me what they're from cause they don't want to embarass her.

I don't think it will hurt your money at all, it'll just annoy the crap out of you to keep explaining it. I honestly would say, "It's a very sexy story so I can only talk about it in private, like in VIP." Then tell them you were doing some S&M and it got out of hand.

Dude, that's hardcore! I wish I had a scar I could tell people that came from being stabbed! Now I'm so jealous!

My ex bf had heart surgery when he was a little kid and has the exact same scar. It never bothered me or any of the other girls he's been with. I don't think it will hurt you getting hired or making money unless you are in a really upscale area.

haha - Ok the stabbed story rocks!

And I'm not really in an "upscale" area so to say. Actually - I don't think I've ever been in one! lol I live about 2 hrs north of Houston.

As a customer, I wouldn't mind as long as you carry your self well. One night I was at a club and a hot dancer came by and started talking to us. She went off on how bad her life was, which turned me off right away. I feel for her, but it killed the mood that we were at the club for. I didn't watch her dance the rest of the night, instead I tipped well for the girls that were up beat, nice and fun to be around, even if they weren't the "hottest" girl in the club. I go to have a good time, with fun people. I say go for it and have a good time with it. If someone cares then so what, don't dance for them.
