I see nothing wrong with any person doing what they want within the confines of human morality. This is just so silly... I don't see why people get all huffy over it. Maybe she likes her name better. Maybe he likes her name better.. or hey, like most things in life, maybe it's just such a small detail on the grand scheme of things that it doesn't need a reason.

I think its fine. When I was married my husband thought about taking my name. At the end of the day though we both got married and kept our own last names. Incidently my son has my last name and I have my mums last name.
I think it's fine. I've heard of people where he takes her name, she takes his, they hypheniate the names, each keep their own, or even come up with a whole, brand new last name.
I personally will take my boyfriends last name when we marry, because I don't like my name, it doesn't mean much to me, his family has been my family, and I would be proud to have their name.
It's been done. It's a pain in the ass, though. Be prepared to have to jump through hoops.
^^^I have plenty of those (-:

Aristocratic hereditary land titles aside. Who cares? Just an issue for the person bearing the name.

I'm all for it. If I like my last name better and the guy actually doesn't mind changing his last name to mine...then great.
Plus, I like my last name.

Im actually not for anyone taking anyone else's name. I mean that's my personal preference and I dont care what others do. But I was born with my name, I "inherited" it as such and I would not change it.
When we got married we combined our last names to create a new last name. It just so happened to work out really, really well. (It's super cool, but I'm not telling!)![]()
^^^ Friends of mine did that. I think it's rather symbolic, the melding of two families and whatnot.
I'll be taking Boy's last name. My family name dies with me. (oooh, feel the bitterness)
In Scotland (by which I mean the clans, not currently), men used to take the woman's name all the time. It essentially depended on whoever had the highest-ranked family. Whoever did, that's what everyone was named. And usually it was the women.
*Shrug* If I was saying "I do" to a woman again, this, and the work involved, would be a non-issue. I don't care if she hyphenates or asks me to take her last name. If I love her, and it's something she wants, I don't see it worth debating, I'd just do it.
People are not ruled by their memories.
I want to take my mom's maiden name, I like it so much better than mine, father's. It has a funny russian double-entendre too, which I think is cute. If I ever get married, it depends on whose surname rolls off the tongue better with my first.

Whatever floats the couples boat I say!
In my case I refuse to take my husbands last name because my bro died, and with him he took our last name. So I've decided I want to carry on the line...Plus I sort of see it as a way to pay my respects to him![]()
My boyfriend and I actually got into a huge arguement over this, and I told him either he takes my last name or we wont get married, for the simple fact that he has 2 brother already who are married and have passed on thier names...

If Yoko Ono had married entertainer Sonny Bono (R.I.P.), divorced him and then married former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, could her name be "Yoko Ono-Bono-Cuomo"?![]()
^^ LMAO. I just giggled for like 5 minutes sayign that 5 times fast!

I hd a high school biology teacher that took on his wife's last name, as a hyphen making him John B***-W****. All of the kids in my class made fun of him for it too, calling him a pussy and such but i find no real problem with it.
i really dig the idea of making a new last name from the two last names.
Love it!
I'm all for it. It shouldn't be a big deal. Just whichever one sounds better.
I'm all for the new-name creation idea too. Cool beans.
I dont know..im not gonna lie my first reaction is that its..girly for a man to do that. Just my op. though.
Mr. Hyde--I'm kinda surprised by the 3rd grade "it's dumb" response. Any reasoning behind that whatsoever?

I don't see why it's "dumb" , why does the women have to take the mans name, it doesn't make you any less of a man.
