Hmm, I have no ideas. We've only had two cats, one my SOs, one a stray, but they both became my bestest buddies in short order. My SOs cat hissed at everyone too, but after a few weeks mellowed out, and soon after initiated sitting on my lap, and wanted to be petted. Maybe give it some more time?

Does the boy like the cat? I don't know why the end up liking people, other then basic stuff, be empathetic towards them, tune into what they like when you are touching them, feed them, talk to them, basic stuff.

How long has it been since you adopted the cat?

Im in the SAME boat. My cat hates kids. Which doesn't work too well considering I have 2. She pisses on their beds, she hides..scurries and screams if they walk into the same room. She has no claws so she can't do any damage. But I'm sick and fucking tired of cleaning cat piss.

Ive had her a year. Nothing has changed. The kids have attempted to pet her ..talk to her ..act like they don't fear her. Nothing works. I think she was abused before I got her..and by kids more than likely.

I'm going to be giving her to an old folks home. She's very cuddly and loving to adults and would be perfect for older people at home or in a nursing home.

Yah well in the meantime... I have no patience to handle cat piss ruining 600 dollar mattresses and expensive rugs.

I'm all for loving a pet, but there comes a point and a time where other things take priority. I worked my ass off to have these things. I'll be fucking damned if an animal ruins it.

Having to have my 7 year old come in crying because he can't sleep in his own bed because bella pissed on it again.

Over it. I refuse to live AROUND a cat.

I'd have to agree. I love cats and especially MY cat(s), but I had to make that choice between giving up a cat and having to pay for peed-on carpet in every apartment (not to mention the smell), and I chose to give up the cat. That was HARD, and I still miss her, years later. But I'm the human, I pay the bills, and I won't live in a litterbox, end of story.

I would say that if it's been 4 months and the cat hasn't warmed up to the fiance yet, then it is the right decision to give up the cat. It's not fair to ask him to deal with being scratched and bitten all the time. Perhaps you two can go together to pick out another cat in a few months, and get one who likes you both.
