    Default Best Day?

Thought I should balance my "worst date" thread with a "best date" or maybe even "best day" -- for me, one of many, a great day sailing with my dad, who I lost a couple of years ago, but who is still with me every moment...how about you? What great days do you guys think about?

The day I woke up before dawn and hiked up to a lighthouse in rural Tasmania, and watched the sun come up over the Tasman Sea. As I sat watching the sunrise, a young wallaby approached and expressed an interest in my breakfast, so I shared it with him. We sat together and watched the sunrise, and then we parted ways. I spent the morning all by myself, hiking in the mountains, and found a hidden lake that was so still it looked like a polished lens. I sat by the lake in the deepest silence I've ever known, and in the stillness I heard G-d and I knew that one way or another, everything in my life would work out. I have never experienced such peace in my life. I commemorated this awakening by stripping naked and immersing in the icy lake, saying the blessings for tevilah, and then I dressed and hiked back to my car. I finished the day with a delicious solitary dinner by the fire, writing in my journal.

It sounds cheesy but that was the very day I discovered myself as an adult and knew I could always take care of myself, that G-d was looking out for me. I learned a lot about who I am as a woman that day. I still reflect on that day sometimes.

^ I tell people that story all the time as my reason for wanting to go to Tasmania. I even remember - you gave the wallaby a ham and cheese croissant.

The day I moved to Australia and realized it was home. I was on a ferry down the Brisbane river, with the wind barely breezing in my face and the hot sun against my skin. I could smell salt water and the river was reflecting the beautiful architecture of the Story Bridge and the casino that was once the Brisbane Treasury, is constructed of many pillars of hard stone. I felt warm and happy and tranquil.

This will probably only be surpassed by the day I get my citizenship.

No, no, I'm Jewish! No ham and cheese here! We shared a pizza roll, big chunk of bread with tomato sauce and a little cheese on it. He didn't like the cheese very much so I ate the cheesy part and gave him the bottom part that was just bread. I know you're not supposed to feed wildlife, but from the way he was acting, everyone else had been. So I figured I might as well too. It really was a special day from start to finish.

Your Brisbane day sounds much better than my first day in Australia... I just looked the wrong way before stepping out into traffic and almost got run over, and then I fell asleep by 2 pm and didn't wake up until the next morning. Oh, and I had all my stuff scrutinized at customs because the damn dog jumped on my duffel bag. Not the most auspicious first day.

Hands down, best day was the day I gave birth to my son.

I don't know if I have a specific "best day ever" but one that sticks out in my mind is when Louie woke me up and drove me all the way to Ohio (from western NY) to see our favorite band, Rasputina. They were playing some Pagan festival in Oberlin, so it was kind of an outdoor concert with families and beautiful scenery and trees all around. It was my birthday and we met the band and Melora (the main cellist and singer) wished me Happy Birthday! We left after dark and drove to Cleveland, got a hotel and ate chicken finger subs. The next day we went antiquing.
    It was pretty awesome.
