Default Are you a leader or follower?

Just a question to ponder or answer if you choose. I really enjoy observing groups of people. It's interesting to see who is completely influenced by the group and will follow the most dominant character, who will become dominant and who will just go their own way and doesn't give a shit what anyone else does. When I am in groups personally, I almost always will go my own way. I don't usually agree or desire to go along with the leader. I just end up going my own little way and hanging out alone. Where do you fit in or do you fit in at all?

    *Raises hand*

It makes life really hard. Some follower personalities will lash out at the people who march to their own drummer....

I often wish I could be more conventional, just so I could get by without so many hassles.....

Still, I wouldn't want to be a Sheeple..or in charge of a bunch of them...

Thats me. I see though I am going to say almost the same as what MadMaxine said, lol.

Sometimes it would be nice to be more conventional and just like everyone else - not often, just sometimes.

Life is too short though to not be me

    What Madmaxine and Aussie said.

Always happy to do my own thing. If you like me, great. If not, great. I'm very comfortable with myself, and never had a herd mentality. I can't even pretend to be a follower.

I've tried to explaine leaders and followers to my son like this.

A leader isn't the kid who can get everyone to play the game he wants to play. The leader is the kid who will say "I'm not playing that, I'm going to play XYZ, who want's to join me"

So I guess I have to say I was always the kid who wasn't satisfied with what everyone else was doing. And I'm still that way.

Your son has a wonderful and wise mom. I'm very much the same--always went my own way, but enjoyed including everyone if I could. I think it is interesting that all of these answers are similar--that in this way our personalities match; I wonder what the others on this site would answer--if it would be an overwhelming amount of "individuals".

I will be honest here and say that though Im not always proud if it, sometimes I am a follower. Then again, sometimes I am the leader, and sometimes I am the one that goes off to do her own thing. It really depends on the situation with me and how Im feeling.

    without a doubt 110% leader
i don't like people who can't think on their own
and i don't like when people hear soemthing, and immediately accept its idea without any sort of logic, or questioning ...

a majority of people out there have that sheep mentality...

now don't get me wrong... im not saying that im self centered, or cocky..
as a matter of fact, i ALWAYS look to people for ideas and advice regarding stuff, but at the end of the day, I still choose which direction i want to go

it's a dog eat dog world.. if you're not gonna step up and take control, some shmuck will ..

also, to me, being a leader isn't about telling everyone what to do , or where to go, or shit like that..

it's about making everyone agree to do such and such thing

a good leader listens to what everyone has to say, analyzes it, and does what ever he can to make everyone happy, and while making sense to him/her

It depends... In school, or at work, I'm a leader... I teach others, am always throwing out new idaes and planning how to do them.

With friends or my boyfriend however, I'm a complete bland doormat "What do you want to do" "I don't know??" "what movie should we put on" "I don't know, what are you in the mood for, will you at least name me a genre you want since youre making me pick?"

I wish I could get them to blend a little bit more. I still have hurt feelings from classmates calling me a "bossy bitch" for tellign THEM to try putting some ideas out if all they were going ot do is say they didn't want MINE... And I get the feeling the boy is MORE than amused by my shyness to make any sort of decision.

I'm a follower. I follow the path that's placed before me, I follow the wisdom which others have imparted on me, I follow many things. When it comes to people I'm the same way, if they wanna do something crazy or something I haven't done before, I'm down. I don't really care what others do so I don't try convincing anybody or what not, because really I wanna get to it. Whatever it is. Are you kidding me, I love it when shit blows up in other peoples faces and to be there to watch it is fun. Even if you know how many things can go wrong it's fun to watch if it does. Don't make the mistake of thinking I'm a bitch though, if I choose not to follow don't try to convince me or argue with me, because you're wasting your time and risk getting made to look like a fool. If I don't choose to follow one thing it's because I choose to follow something else. I don't love drama or nothing like that, but when it comes down to it, I handle mine. It's a complex thing to try and explain ones behavior. Okay, maybe it's best if I put a situation as an ex. Say somebody in the group says, we should go to a concert. I'll say, who's down, put the money up and we'll get that shit done. If they put the money up, it's going down, if nobody's really down, I'll buy a pair of tix and find someone else thats down. Basically, bring me an idea I'll like and I'll be the biggest follower, don't do so and I'll find something else worth following.

It really depends on the group dynamics for me. I have been in group situations where I naturally stepped up to the dominant role (thus leader) and in other situations where I naturally was in a more quieter role (thus follower you could say).

I like to think I am a leader.. though at times I can be quite conventional and even shy. Overall I am a leader in that I do my own thing - whether or not someone follows. I do strange, unexpected, seeminglingly "uncharacteristic" things... it is as if I lead myself or something... lol.. I seek out everything on my own, and have relied on noone, ever. I certainly do not follow Anyone.

I like to be both. For me, it totally depends on the situation. Sometimes it's wise to be the follower, or to let others take the lead even if you feel you know or can do better.

I've always been a natural born leader.

Even when I was in the Air Force my job as an enlisted person was considered "up the rank ladder" as far as Air Force enlisted careers. You had to have a certain Type A personality to fit my job or they would retrain you into something more laidback. I was in charge of a A LOT of people and A LOT OF LIVES as well. We were considered "The Base Commander's Babies."

I learned so much about leadership skills, my personality, and how to POSITIVELY motivate people to get the job done. I love sitting in the "Big Chair."

Sometimes I do get lazy, though, and like it when somebody else does all of the planning or work, depending on the group situation as stated above...until I'm ready to grab hold of the reins again.

I can also be a loner, too.

Same here. I don't know that I'd classify myself as a leader or a follower. If there's something that I really want to do, I'll try to convince everyone and if there's something that I certainly do not want to do, I just won't do it. But most of the time, I just go with the flow. I'm not hard to please And I'm non confrontational so if it's something that will lead to an argument and it's not a huge deal to me, I just go with it.

I really crave being social, and being around other people, but I'm pretty shy at first. I tend to observe more than participate. And often I'll be doing my own thing WHILE they are doing theirs...but still all together, if that makes any sense.

And like some of the other girls posted, it really depends on the situation. If it looks fun, I'll join in and follow along, if I have a fun idea then I'll see how many others I can get to come along.
