    Default very screwy appetite

I'm so hungry all the time lately...for the last week I guess. I'm eating very healthy stuff right now, and I'm not even restricting calories that much (1400 a day, and I'm not doing strenuous excercise). Like today I had a decent breakfast, one that would usually keep me full for 5-6 hours, but my stomach started to grumble and I got hungry again two and half hours later!

I'm trying to do that thing where I eat four little meals a day, and maybe a piece of fruit between a meal if I'm hungry again. It's helping with my digestive system, but it's making me hungry hungry all the time. Any thoughts? I'm trying to keep up my protein with almonds, yogurt, and chicken too, so I don't think that's it.

(ps- I'm losing weight, little by little, so is this a reaction to dieting? Just never really happened this way before. It's not like sugar or salt cravings, it's actual grumbly tummy hunger).

drink more water, and liquids, to keep your tummy happy. That seems to work for me when I feel like that.

Green tea (decaf or caf, didnt matter) really helped me. I drank about a cup and a half of it (hot), with like 2 teaspoons of soy milk in it and a packet of splenda, and that helped me out when I was trying to lose weight and would get so damn hungry...try it, it may help.

You're hungry because you need to eat more. You should not be losing weight. You're already very skinny! If your stomach is growling, eat. You won't get fat by keeping yourself full - in fact, if you stay hungry, you'll slow down your metabolism and then you WILL start storing fat. Maybe your meals need to be bigger.

I find that my menstrual cycle affects my appetite considerably. One week I'll be ravenous, devouring everything in sight while my tummy keeps growling; the next week I'll eat two pieces of fruit and nothing else all day. I dunno how long your appetite has been up, but it might be hormonal.

Try doing 6 small meals instead of 4. The timing that works best for me is this:

    - wake up - Breakfast
    - 3 hours later - snack
    - 2 hours later - lunch
    - 3 hours later - snack
    - 2 hours later - dinner
    - 3 hours later - snack

You should be getting hungry every 2-3 hours, as that's when you need to eat again.

When I've been doing a super diet where I'm severely restricting my food intake, I've found that I'm ALWAYS hungry when I start giving in a little or starting to go off the diet.

You look thin from your picture and from what I remember, you've had/have an eating disorder. This may be your body telling you that it needs more food. There are plenty of healthy, thin girls on this forum who eat ALL of the time. Just put healthy stuff in your body and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the input...I'm not actually very thin, I just have a scarecrow face. But I am trying to be happier with my body. I just wanted to lose the ten pounds I put on since last summer (and I was not too thin then either) so I could fit all my clothes, stop yo-yoing, and be done with the dieting. Sexybrat, I'm trying to eat frequent, small meals like that...like an apple or a few almonds every three hours, and it's really helping! I think it will take a while to get used to it, but eating more often is certainly better than starving/ over eating.

^^ Yay! If you're still getting hungry, make your snacks a little bit bigger. Like almonds and an apple, or an apple and peanut butter or string cheese. As long as you have some protein with all of them, you should be good

An apple or a few almonds is not a meal....

My mom told me that this was just a reaction to my smaller, more frequent meals I was eating. Just as at the same time my bladder seemed constantly full because I was upping my water intake. Just as she said, it started calming down once my body realized it would be getting smaller, more frequent meals instead of humongous 2 meals a day I used to eat. And my bladder has also gotten used to more water I usually eat like this:

Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal with Fat free milk and fresh fruit, then maybe one english muffin.

When I'm at work from 10:30-4pm I snack on walnuts, grapes, and lots of water in my car.

I come home and eat dinner ( its not so concrete like the breakfast)

about 3 hours later I eat an apple

Right before bed I eat pineapple or something.

I know it's not perfect, and I need to start packing a lunch for work, but slowly my body is adjusting.

I've found that each meal (at least for me) should be about 300 cal and 200 cal for a snack.
    300cal x 3 meals= 900
    200cal x 2 snacks = 400

I can snack again after after your last mean if I need to. Calories vary 1300-1500 per day.
There is also the matter of blood sugar levels. Eat meals and snacks that don't spike your blood sugar. You wont feel that up and down feeling all the time.
